I'm at also at $75 per day and the minute it hits 5pm I'm crawling through TripAdvisor or Yelp. Supposedly, this is suppose to get me fat but until that happens I'm continuing to eat like a king.

Isn't Raddison suppose to be an upscale hotel? Either way I've been in a few but it's pretty 50/50 quality wise.

What's everyone using to find all the fancy local restaurants while traveling? I've had good luck with Yelp and TripAdvisor but I'm curious if there anything else.

Has there been any rental car discussion? Personally, I'd rather use Uber or Public Transportation but sometimes it isn't practical. I've gone with Hertz the car was fine but all the time spent waiting to fill out paperwork was ridiculous and National is incredibly easy which I'll probably stick with unless anyone else has input.

Aloft tries a little too hard to be trendy but I don't mind them. Comfy beds, clean and fancy bathrooms with standing showers.

SuperSpiff posted:Yeah, my only issue with the Aloft is that it's trying for a younger audience. The Aloft near LAX has a pool with rowdy kids in it that make all kinds of noise The rooms themselves are pretty quiet? Hell, its quieter than most hotels in general.

Hilton or death. Well, I'm not being that that serious but I feel that Hilton has the most consistency. Marriot's aren't that bad but one in city might be alright but the exact same one in another might be completely different. IHG or Holiday Inns aren't that bad either.

Obviously United messed up big time in the PR department and this fiasco is going to hurt whatever brand/goodwill they still had left. Why the gate agent let them on in the first place is absolutely ridiculous. If corporations want customers they should be empathetic when they're unable to deliver service or product well. United is likely in the legal "right" but the way they've handled everything and continue is only making things worse. What was the conclusion? As a guy whom travels frequently Leggings, Yoga Pants, etc. have just become a standard clothing item like jeans. I understand it shows your "figure" but that's just the time that we live in and United needs to join reality.

On the subject of bags. Are Tumi's great as they say? I typically go on 3-4 days trips and would like to be able to shove everything into one large carry-on backpack. Is that even a thing?

Agreed, the Austin Airport is well done and there are still things to keep you at least semi-occupied even if you've got a layover. I thought they had one or two airline clubs?

Lyft now has a partnership with Delta. That was the only push I needed to dump Uber. I'm pretty much throwing absolutely everything into Delta Points. The majority of my flights are Delta, personal AMEX a SkyMiles Card and SPG w/ Delta although I can't see how much this program last much longer after the Marriot buyout.

kimcicle posted:National only gets noticeably good when you hit their first tier of loyalty (executive). Before that point, you'll get the standard compacts that are on every lot. When you get to pick from the executive lot, things really change. It's nice to have a wide selection of cars, because sometimes you want a crossover and sometimes you want a sports car. Some lots will be very lenient in what they drop into the executive area; I've seen a lot more sports cars / convertibles, full sized SUVs, and fully loaded midsized cars in there lately. Which airport did you get the Audi and BMW? Was just with executive status?

Some of the cities that haven't reached Uber/Lyft maturity I'd do it or rent a car. The next driver the asks me to navigate through the city they live in gets zero stars.

So much for IHG Points, I can't find a drat hotel in the chain that'll accept them that isn't hours outside of LA. Hilton might not give out as much but their app and locations make everything easier.

What's everyone strategy on maximizing points? Personal Credit Card - AMEX w/ Delta Points SPG - Points with SPG and bonus points with Delta flights Delta - Points with Delta and bonus points with SPG Lyft - Points with Delta. Incredibly small but it's literally no difference than Uber. Rental Car - National. Bad points but Hertz is god awful and I'm a dozen days from the top tier. I've been told there are some tricks your able to play with American Airlines or Southwest and convert points to cash or gift cards. Thoughts on that?

Isn’t booking direct supposed to be cheaper? Even with near top-tier status with Hilton, SPG and low-mid with American, Delta it’s still cheaper to book through Google, Expedia, etc.
