I only have 3D Classics Xevious and I really like it since the 3D effect makes it a lot easier to distinguish land and air enemies. I would wait for it to go back on Club Nintendo so you can use coins to buy it, though, since I doubt anyone outside of Xevious/SHUMP/Namco fans would pay $6 for it.

I'd like to see the Cabinet Mode in action though... Because, even though it sounds neat (especially to people who played a shitload of it on the actual cabinet), the description makes it sound like it could be a good source of motion sickness.

first, what does Trine 2 play like? It looks like a fantasy type 2D side scrolling platformer. Is it fun? Is there a story? I don't really know anything about it.
If it's like the first game (I do have Trine 2 on Steam, but I haven't played it yet), it's a lot like the Lost Vikings games where you switch between your three characters and use their strengths and skills to progress through the game. The first game had a storyline, but it was pretty minimal and mostly played out in the tutorial IIRC, so I assume Trine 2 will mostly be the same in that regard.

The only one I've played is Xevious, which is a pretty good version that some people find to be easier than the non-3D versions since you can easily distinguish air targets from ground targets.

I've heard Excitebike is pretty good since the track editor actually works in that you can save your custom tracks (I dunno if you can share them online, which would be loving awesome IMO), but the 3D effect is purely cosmetic (although it does look pretty nice from the video in the eShop).

Kid Icarus is supposed to be okay as well since they brought back the save feature that was only on the Famicom Disk System version and took out the slowdown from too many sprites being on screen. Again, the 3D effect is cosmetic, but I dunno how I feel about the backgrounds since they look a little out of place with the original sprites.

Edit: I just watched the 3D Classics Kid Icarus video again... The dungeon backgrounds actually look much better than the outdoor backgrounds since they use the original sprites.

Heads up for anyone who hasn't taken advantage, today is the last day Mario Party 2, Metroid 2, 1080 Snowboarding, and 3D Classics: TwinBee are available to buy with coins on Club Nintendo. I assume they change the games out at midnight PST, but I'm not 100% sure.

Edit: TwinBee is actually pretty awesome. The 3D effect is nice and the game seems a lot easier once you get the multiple ship and firepower upgrade (although it's still pretty tough IMO).

But, I haven't played it in a couple years, so maybe I'm just remembering most/all the good stuff about it. :shobon:

If they ever did another actual Mario RPG, I would kill to have either a true sequel to the first SMRPG, or a sidestory game about what Luigi was doing during SMRPG since we never got to see him (he was in the game's manual, but it would be nice to see him go on a little adventure). Bonus points if they make it look similar the original game.

Edit 2: Birds and Beans is fun and :3: as gently caress, but it gets pretty tough pretty fast, which is okay by me since it's supposed to be like an old arcade game. :)

- Filter letters by sender in the letter list.
Those updates (especially the ink color on each page one) sound like great additions to Swapnote. The US version hasn't been updated yet, but I'm sure it will come either later today or when the eShop updates.

If you're talking about the physical G&W games, then I dunno why unless they know that a lot of Club Nintendo members won't have enough coins to buy those. Although the whole point of Club Nintendo is to get people to buy/register as many Nintendo products as possible to gain coins, so putting up one of the Mario or Zelda G&W systems would want to make hardcore Nintendo fans want to go buy more games or systems to get enough coins for the G&Ws.

It is a gambling sim, but you get to go to different themed casinos (some of which are modelled after IRL casinos in Vegas) in your quest to max out your money counter at $9,999,999. You can have random events happen to you that can either help or hinder you like someone asking you to invest money in something (which can either give you more money, or end up being a scam and costing you big time). I haven't played it in years, but I remember it being pretty fun and having a good amount of personality (at least more than most casino/gambling sims).

Twinbee is a little more advanced than Xevious but the general "shoot air enemies, bomb ground enemies" gameplay is pretty similar, so it'd definitely be a good choice.
Personally, I think Twinbee is a much better game since it doesn't have the adaptive difficulty that makes Xevious so loving hard when you kill every enemy that moves (or doesn't move if it's a ground target). Plus, the music in Twinbee that plays when you get a good power-up (like spread shot or a shield) is great.

NOA has three different versions of Street Fighter 2 listed for release on the Wii U VC this week - World Warrior, New Challengers and Hyper Fighting. Why they can't just release Turbo with online play and call it a day is beyond me.
Each of the games after World Warrior did add new characters (Hyper Fighting/SF2 Turbo made the bosses playable and New Challengers/Super SF2 added brand new characters like Cammy and T. Hawk) and balance changes, so they are technically different games.

The reason why to sell all three seperately is probably for nostalgia since I'm sure a lot of kids at the time the games were new only had one (or two) of the games at a time.

For anyone who has 3D Classics Twinbee and/or has played the original Famicom game, does the game actually have an "end" or does it loop endlessly until I game over? I checked Google and someone on another forum mentioned the original Famicom version having 64 stages even though that wouldn't make sense since every loop is five stages long unless the final loop was one stage short.

Also, the shield and spread shot with the built-in auto-fire absolutely breaks this game (until you lose your shield and hit an enemy in one of the higher levels, which makes the game go from a cakewalk to getting killed every five seconds from enemies that run into you faster than you can react :argh:).

This can't be stressed enough IMO. I bought it based on the notion that it was a tabletop RPG in video game form, and hated it. It's a JRPG with dice for JRPG fans, plain and simple.
That sounds pretty interesting and actually okay to me since, as stated before, I've never played a tabletop RPG and don't know if I could handle how (from what I've gathered, at least) complex they can get.

I played a little bit of Neverwinter Nights, which is based on one of the AD&D rulesets (I dunno which one :shobon:), when that was new-ish and gave up on it because of how different it was compared to RPGs I was used to like Final Fantasy (I'm sure I could get into them now that I'm older and more patient with most thing). So, the idea of a tabletop-style JRPG sounds like something I'd like to try. I'm gonna hold off until I get a little more feedback from other goons, but I'm thinking this might be a buy for me. :)

Edit: I ended up buying it even though I didn't get any more goon feedback. :shobon:

VVV That's true. Plus, going by what I've seen, I doubt it'll be worse than the first FarCry, which I also paid $5 for and is still the only game I legitimately hate and wish would disappear forever from my Steam library.

There is a 'quick cinema' option that lets you disable and/or shorten most of the cutscenes (I think the ending and credits were the only ones untouched), but you have to beat the game one time to unlock it (given that you have the PC version, I'm sure there's a way to trick the game to unlock it without beating it). I actually didn't mind the story stuff aside from the little cutscenes that happened every time you picked up a necessary item (like the coins in the Amazon level), but the quick cinema mode made later playthroughs for getting the rest of the achievements a lot more tolerable.
