You haven't lived until you've been utterly dominated in Quiz Bowl by a 5-day Jeopardy champ. It was like 4 or 5 years ago and I still have flashbacks.

From what I heard part of what they look for are contestants that'll give others a fighting chance. They don't want someone who'll just run away with everything like Jennings did because its not as fun to watch.

Jennings was incredibly compelling, though. I'm taking the test tomorrow. Central time zone whatuuuuuuuup

I think I did all right. Probably in the 40ish range. I think I at least put down reasonable guesses for the ones I didn't know. I do tend to fall into a groove of ignoring category names though.

Was Ethiopia the largest country on the horn of Africa, or do only coastal countries count as part of the Horn? I couldn't decide between that or Somalia.

I thought it was asking for any of the three largest, which would be Ethiopia, Eritrea, or Somalia, but NOT Djibouti

I was debating that too and went with Somalia as well.

For the chemistry one, it was worded in a way that made me think they wanted "inert gasses" but I am worried they won't accept that and "noble gasses" was the correct answer.

I put inert too. I think the word noble on its own doesn't imply that it won't react.
