After I finish this rebuild and break it in I'm going to sell it. What I get with that money I haven't figured out yet, but I know I want at least 3 vehicles.

1. A 60's or 70's era British/Italian/Japanese pile of poo poo. Something like a Triumph Spitfire/TR6, Austin Healey 3000, or a Fiat 124 Spider. I'd love a Datsun Fairlady 2000 if I could find one. I'm also up for the sporty coupe style like a Jensen Interceptor or an Alfa Romeo Giulia or GTV. I absolutely loathe Alfa Spiders though.

2. A ludicrous hauler... I really just want a deuce-and-a-half honestly.

3. A lovely underpowered bike I can learn on and wrench on. Honda Nighthawk, Honda VF___, Yamaha XS___ come to mind.

AI, please weigh in. Let me know what you think of my horrible taste in cars, and give me an idea of why I'm an idiot for wanting ___ so I can ignore you and buy it anyways. If there's an obvious car/bike I'm missing let me know.

I have a S2000 in the same colour:) Why in the world are you getting rid of it?

Suggestions? Well it's a bit later than the 70's but how about one of these

or if you must have 70's

Failing that there's always the classic MGB

Also Jut has the worst taste in "classic" cars.

I was going for the 'something different yet affordable' approach. Don't knock the SD1 though, it's a big brute of a car that goes like stink when you put your foot down.

MGBs are bad?

Ok I have a stupid question...sorry for the thread hijack but you are a S2000 owner and all.

Here it goes, and yes I feel like a retard.

Oil: I check my oil every time I fill up, the engine is usually warm and the dipstick shows halfway between low and high.

It's currently winter and the car has been standing for a month or so in the garage. Today I turned the engine over and checked the oil only to see it below the 'Low' mark. There is no oil on the ground, and I'm not sure which reading (the one I took a few weeks ago, or the one tonight) is correct.
Before you ask, yes i do wipe the stick before taking my reading!

If it is indeed low and needs a top up, which flavour oil should I add? Does it matter if I'm not using the exact same type as the service stations?

Yours sincerely
A Retard.

Edit: How about a Mk1 Capri?

Rule of thumb: if there are any discrepancies when measuring your oil level, always use the lowest measurement.

Just use the oil the manual recommends 5W40 if you're in a colder climate, and 10W30 (I think? You should double check that) if you're in a warmer climate. Synthetic is nice if you can afford it.

Doesn't overfilling lead to damage too?

How much do fix-er-uppers on E-types go for over there? Looked at any of the classic Lotuses?

OK, keeping the unusual theme, how about a TVR? Wait. come back and look at these beauties

But good luck finding one...

A Vixen may be findable

Unfortunately they're nowhere to be found around here. Whenever I look for them its either ludicrously expensive, barely better than a shell, or some homegrown redneck conversion.

EDIT: Or it's a godawful 280I from the 80's :barf:

I was drooling over a Cerbera earlier today, they are cheap as chips in the UK with £10-12k fetching you a nice one. The only problem is that I now live in Romania and there is an illegal pollution tax for importing cars from the EU which would add 5-6k onto the cost, otherwise I would drive my S2000 over to the UK and drive back with a shiny TVR next week. God I want one so bad.
Shame they never made it over to the US in large numbers:(

Yea, it was raining and a bit miserable. The road to be quite honest is a piece of poo poo and it's more than a little scary when you come around a barrier-less hairpin with a huge drop on one side, to see a shepard walking a flock of sheep along the road.
Oh and we were witness to an accident which killed 3 people...

Since you know S2k's well, I'd just like to ask you a thing.
I seem to have an oil leak (slow, not dripping) at the front left of the engine, by the tensioner...
Some peeps say this is common and to forget about it, others are giving me horror stories.
I have to drive 2000km in a few weeks so I don't want to risk breaking down in loving Serbia or something.
What would you do....I mean what do you think I should do?

On the intake side?

There's a couple of different places the leak could be coming from.

The most obvious would be the corner of the valve cover. It's a rubber gasket and easy as poo poo to replace.

The timing cover also could be leaking either from the perimeter (liquid gasket) or from the island gasket for the accessory belt's idler pulley (also liquid gasket). Leaking from there would necessitate taking the cover off, which is simple yet tedious aside from the pain in the rear end that is loving with the harmonic balancer.

If I've assumed incorrectly and it's on the exhaust side, then it could be the aforementioned gaskets or it could also be the timing chain tensioner or the VTEC solenoid.

Here's a paint thing to show you the possible places for an oil leak:

It should be pretty simple to diagnose which seal is leaking from there.

If you're leaking from the VTEC Solenoid or Chain Tensioner I'd either fix it or at least double check the bolt torque on them. If it's from the timing cover or valve cover I wouldn't be worried about it but I would certainly check your oil level every fill-up during the trip.

gently caress, it's right on the left corner of the horizontal line you drew by the Chain Tensioner...guess I'll get the Honda guy to check it out when I get it serviced next week:(

Thanks for taking the time to mspaint me a pretty picture and for your help:)

I'll try to snap a pic tomorrow anyway

Edit: crappy ipad pics attached. The bottom bolt on the tensioner? is covered in lovely amber oil, the others are clean so I think it's coming from there...or maybe I'm rubbish...

This news article is pretty old but that's the only one I could find in english, the phenomenon has expanded and it's pretty common to see convoys using Audi RS6's or 911's.

Last year a convoy was caught in my city because the transporting car crashed while outrunning the police in a souped up Maserati Quattroporte that was stolen like 2 days before from the owner of a casino.

So yeah the police bought Subarus WRX STI and Renault Megane RS to catch them but it's much not working because they have scout cars and sometimes 500+ HP.

That's loving awesome...
