The new political theories based around the Grundrisse, i.e Althusser's idea of an epistemological break in Marx's writings and the development of Structuralist Marxism, were never that popular in England and I doubt they would have found their way into The Guardian.

I absolutely adored Monkey Dust when it was on the telly, and even today it comes across as almost preternaturally prescient about an awful lot of things (McDonalds selling degrees comes to his mind). But upon rewatch, there is some pretty iffy stuff in there as well. Joint greatest ever soundtrack, though (tied with Spaced).

The show was a collaboration between a pretty big variety of cartoon studios, hence the huge difference in quality of every sketch.

Is it? Can you explain it because I have no idea what's meant to be going on there.

Also yes, it's because the express's cartoonist is poo poo.

Boris had a disastrous interview on the Andrew Marr show last Sunday, which people are saying could affect his chances of becoming Prime Minister. In the cartoon he's hit a snag in his zip-wire. viz, he's hit a snag on his way to number ten.

The Indy cartoon's a reference to the election in Pakistan. It had a large turnout despite there being bombings in parts of Karachi:

The deficit was already declining when Blair took over, as the post-Black Wednesday business optimism encouraged investment by businesses into the economy. The deficit began to increase again in the mid-2000s as investment in the economy by businesses started to decline again. These two graphs illustrate the issue pretty well:

Labour tried to counter the dearth of new investment in the economy by spending large amounts of money in the public sector which created the ever growing deficit in the public sector, illustrated here:

The question now is how to get the huge corporate profits of the 2000s invested into the economy.

And that purpose was to get the king a divorce (and that is a bad thing.)

There's more to it than that. The Vatican didn't have a policy of blocking all divorces as most people seem to think. Just a few decades earlier they had granted a divorce to Louis XII. The reason the pope refused to give Henry a divorce was because of the influence of the Habsburg Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. The Habsburg's were hoping that they'd be able to extend their empire to England by marrying his son Philip (the one who'd later send the armada) to his, then only heir, Mary. This all went wrong for both parties obviously, but Henry was quite right to withdraw the English church in this case away from the power of Rome.
