Buried alive posted:I've sometimes heard that english/western European weapons were essentially big metal clubs in the area of 10-20 lbs. Are there any surviving historical examples of those that were intended for combat? Or is that more from the mistaken attitude that katana > all. Not an expert, but these guys appear to have some knowledge of the issue. Here's another page with an illustration: a 20 lb sword, even with a thick and wide blade, would be like 40 feet long.
