Oh my God. I'm surprised to see even Florrie mentioned here. I thought almost no one knew about her :D
I've been fan for the longest time, and I was supposed to see her back in 2012 but I couldn't make it. Her newest song is really awesome, but my favorite is still I Took A Little Something. There's just something about that piano in the background.
Anyways. Are there any Gaga fans here? I've seen her twice. First time with the Monster Ball, and the second with the Born This Way Ball. Both were incredibly awesome, and I really can't wait for ARTPOP to be released so I can see her again.

I wonder what their prospects are. I'm pretty sure their single will be a hit here in the UK, but will the residual hype surrounding One Direction carry them to similar success across the water, or will they end up like the Wanted and fail to live up to their early Transatlantic promise?

They are, most likely, going to release a hit single or two and release a couple of videos but never take off like One Direction did. I am not sure how 1D managed to become so popular. Was it simply a right video at the right time? I remember the whole boyband thing brewing in the background as Justin Bieber steamrolled the charts and his popularity soared. I think that 1D is just gonna remain popular for a little while, but be forgotten in a year or two unless they keep pumping out more catchy singles. I was humming the "That's what makes you Beautiful" song after I saw it on TV once, but none of the later released singles got stuck in my head like that one.

A friend of mine recently linked a very, VERY weird music video to me. At first I didn't like it at all because, well, it was way too "cutesy" but now I have to admit I'm a fan of her. I guess you've heard of her because her song PONPONPON became a meme of some sort back when it was released.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzC4hFK5P3g

So, I guess I've turned into a fan of some batshit insane j-pop artist. Although, I'm pretty sure she's pretty normal in comparison to other japanese artists considering Japanese media is known to be quite hosed up, but this is the first j-pop artist I like. Not sure if this is the correct thread to talk about her, but I really like her music video songs. The other stuff I've listened to haven't been as catchy or as fun to listen to, but they definately know which songs to make a video of :3:

EDIT: The most popular Norwegian newsite is preparing for a massive Belieber invasion because he is holding some shows at the biggest venue in Oslo. They also keep writing about how fanatical they are and they really don't understand how or what causes it. Isn't the Belieber hysteria quite comparable to Elvis, The Beatles, 90's boybands and so on? I don't think it is something new.

I'm not a huge fan of Britney Spears, but there are some songs I do enjoy listening to from her and her album Femme Fatale was a surprisingly enjoyable pop-record. She released her newest song Ooh La La (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVcSNnqRD0c), and oh my god it's all over the loving place. What is this song trying to be? A dance song? A "cute" acoustic song? And that bridge is just the worst.

Luckily, Gaga's back from her rest and media silence, and her new album now has a release date! :woop: Single's coming out in mid August while the album drops on the 11th of November. I'm really excited to hear what she's been working on, but I'm actually somewhat worried that it really won't be selling big due to the disappointment that was Born This Way. I mean, I love Born This Way but it's marketing made it seem like it was the coming of Christ and that Gaga was going to save everyone musically. It took some time for me to enjoy, but in the end it really is the best songs Gaga have made but I'm not sure what Gaga can do now. She could pull a Madonna and release a Ray of Light-like album, but now that acoustic guitars and funk music is, as far as I've noticed, the new big things in pop-music, maybe Gaga has to release some record to show off her piano/jazz skills. I would pre-order that album in a heartbeat :3:

Then again, I am no pop music analytic so her album could be the greatest thing ever to happen to pop music this decade

Edit: By the way! Natalia Kills has released two music videos these last two weeks with new songs and holy poo poo they're awesome.

Problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZrZI6OmezE
Saturday Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cnD_efmM6s
My favorite one is Saturday Night because, for me, she sounds like an entertaining and not-boring Lana del Rey. The chorus is pretty great too.

I'm not sure if they're the correct genre, but I think they're pop enough:

I really like the The Naked and Famous' new album, In Rolling Waves. It's not as strong and packed with awesome hits as the previous album, but the songs Hearts like Ours and I Kill Giants are incredibly good. The music video for Hearts like Ours (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqUJdcCjUIA ) is pretty cool, too. Anyone else a fan of these guys? I think I'm gonna see them in november.

Oh, and here's a killer perfomance of Hearts like Ours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1kjR4D6ghs.

If you hadn't noticed, Tegan and Sara recently released a new video for their song Goodbye, Goodbye (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjgDuImuD_4). I'm not sure if it was a good choice for a single, but it could be because I just love the song Drove me Wild from their newest album. Overall I'm impressed by their transition from somewhat pop-ish indie music to almost pure pop on Heartthrob. It's such an awesome album.

In other news, it looks like Artpop has had a somewhat sluggish start. It sold about 260, 000 copies, which is good, but well below what Gaga shifted last time (Born This Way debuted with sales of 1, 000, 000; even if you factor in that about 400, 000 were sold for $0.99 as part of an Amazon one-day discount, that's still about three times what Artpop managed in its first week). I've seen this soft landing attributed to the failure of "Applause" to go straight to number one, but that hardly seems fair, because it's stayed in the Top 10 since it was released.

I think that, similar to Applause, that it won't have huge n.1 sales but it'll have steady sales all through the end of this year and the start of the next. It's not a top hit album with huge club songs, and it wasn't marketed to hell and back as BTW was.

So I have no English sources for this, but apparently Justin Bieber's pulling himself out of the music industry after his new album's released. He said this in some radio interview he did. I am not a fan of him so I don't really care, but it's still a bit weird. He is wildly succesfull with a legion of rabid fans who will do everything for him. But I guess being a child-star becoming an absolute superstar is quite exhausting so I think it's for the better?

It wasn't that I didn't like the album. I think it's rather good actually. I just forgot every song on it except Tennis Court, 400 Lux and A World Alone. But I can't help thinking that this album is what Lana Del Rey always wanted Born To Die to be, but considering that they are separate artists with completely different identities it's probably just a silly thought. I don't know that she really has since Red came out, though. She dated Harry Styles, but that's about it. I mean, she dated a bit more back in the day, but even then, I think she exorcized most of the demons from those relationships in Fearless, Speak Now, and Red.

Aside from a few key moments (Out of the Woods, which is obviously about Styles), most of her new songs are much vaguer about who they're about, which kinda leads me to believe that they're not about a person, but an idea, or just a wish. I mean, who doesn't want a dude who looks like a James Dean Daydream?

Also, I'm not really missing the ballads that much. We got This Love and You Are In Love, and she already perfected the sappy ballad with Enchanted, and the breakup ballad with All Too Well. I want more songs like Style and Blank Space.

Yeah, this. When people start talking about Taylor Swift's music is only about guys she has dated, I start to wonder if that's true because if she had written so many songs about them she would have dated every guy in NYC by now. I always thought that Taylor's music was inspired by relationships in general, not neccesarily the relationships she has been in. She sings about the ideal love, the ideal romance, and her sad songs are about the most heartbreaking situations one can experience in a relationship. I figured that's one of the reasons why her music is so popular because her writing style is so incredibly general in the way that everyone can relate to what she's writing about to some degree, and not think that "Yeah, that song is definately about the guy she dated then."

Of course there are exceptions, however :v:
And I can't stop listening to Style. Seriously, I did not expect such a good pop album from Taylor, but I agree that it's way too long.
