I'm going to see this band live tonight. Norwegian pop at it's best (except for A-ha but we don't talk about that). I kinda love Eva & The Heartmaker, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that I love about her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX_Rjcf36CY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFPEUCBbOMs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxvuFELL1vU And while talking about Norwegian pop music, I must mention Susanne Sundfør. She's become a major artist recently due to her latest album release which is incredibly awesome. Although she isn't cheery as Eva & The Heartmaker. It's a very moody, melancholic and relatively dark pop album but it's incredible and worth a listen nonetheless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdSB_PcBW3k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n2as9NM9d0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpykeGxba7M Stalins Moustache fucked around with this message at 13:53 on Apr 24, 2015 |

Honestly I kinda like Lana Del Rey when she's at her poppiest. Lolita and Dark Paradise are pretty damned good songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlHa6yfdCSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZwCu8u0bzA And honestly, her music is kinda alternative compared to much of what's on the top 40's but it's also "safe" to listen to without sounding too alternative. She's like the safest alternative pop artist there is, similar to Lorde but even Lorde's music sometimes goes further than Lana's music with songs like Ribs and Bravado. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TImqwfEbaeg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qaeoz_7cyE Stalins Moustache fucked around with this message at 23:46 on Aug 16, 2015 |

Thanks to GBS, I was introduced to this Japanese electrorap / pop group which is incredibly awesome. Last week they released a new music video from their latest EP, and without knowing what they're singing about, it's an incredibly nice song in itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlmHhdwyO64 This other song, HATE, is also incredibly awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffH_Mp74xh4

I like it when artists cover their own song into a more chiller tune, like Kesha did with her Die Young song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa4jGB-8si4 (I just love Kesha. Haters gonna hate.)

If I remember right from something I read some time ago, she's actually just a really shy person. She loves music and she loves performing, but that she doesn't want to make a big deal out of herself at all and she just wants to do her thing and have fun with it. But nevertheless her marketing in general has sucked.

It's an incredibly good album, but there's little that has happened to promote it at all. At this point I'm certain that goons would do better at managing her and promoting her music.

Huh. Apparently Florrie's gonna be playing a small concert in a small town in Norway, close to where I live I did not expect that, but I'm incredibly happy as I'm a big fan of hers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fIllISLx3M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O88XmgHhrU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azrKHpCwvm0

While Kyla la Grange is not popular for her pop-songs at all and is much rather known as a weird hipster-electronica / alternative music artist, when she goes in for writing a pop song she does it rather well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD5ajixxv-w

What a coincidence! Kyla la Grange just released the Hummingbird music video It's 360 degree music video too, so it's a little trippy but it's cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUiSVJPHJMw

So if you're going to any of the future ones, look forward to it. I saw her when she came to Oslo late last year. I was surprised by how much energy and fun the concert was. Definitely recommended to see if you get the opportunity to do so!

I saw her live in Oslo not long ago and it was honestly a very depressing show. It was fun getting my nostalgia on, definitely, and I don't like trying to interpret what other people thinks but my impression was that she honestly did not want to do the show at all. It was incredibly sloppy, and everything felt forced and like she just had to stress through every perfomance just to get the show over with. I still love her though, and her music's still a big part of my childhood, so please take care of yourself Britney!

I know it's more EDM, but Madeon just dropped a new single and it's hella chill to listen to. A pretty good summer song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qYyU019PbI My God, the new Katy Perry is incredibly annoying

Haven't seen this posted anywhere. Madeon is much more of an EDM artist, but he still produces some pretty good pop tunes I think is worth listening in on. His latest single is really chill and fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfnRTifSWh0 PS, flashing imagery in that video if you're sensitive to that.

somnambulist posted:Gaga’s new song is leaking slowly- uptempo dance/disco. I just listened to the entirety of the song. Not sure whether or not it is a demo because the sound was kind of crisp still, but nevertheless, the song is loving amazing. Sounds like a Carly Rae Jepsen song, only a ton more energetic. Will definitely dance my rear end off to it at the club. Edit: Man, if this is the sound she's going for, the album is gonna be amazing. I can't wait to hear the songs that she made with SOPHIE too. I saw Carly Rae Jepsen live in Oslo at her last concert of the European tour. Jesus Christ almighty, what a show. I've loved pretty much all her album releases, but I've never seen clips or watched any of her live perfomances before. She turned it the gently caress up, and knew how to control an audience and have a huge stage presence. That was amazing, and I hope that everyone here has an opportunity to go see her live at some point.

Junpei posted:I'm sure as hell not the first person to point this out, but does it feel like people are getting tired of new music? I honestly think it's got to do with the fragmentation of music too. Same thing happened to the TV show industry. There's so many good shows spread across a million platforms nowadays that its become somewhat rare to find that One Show everyone watched. With music this is even more intensified because the biggest platforms are entirely free (TikTok,Youtube), and most use Spotify or other subscriber based music browsers more as a catalogue of music they already like rather than searching out new ones. Kids, teens and young adults whom pop music are oriented towards aren't listening to the radio anymore either, nor are they watching TV. There's tons and tons and tons of great musicians across various genres now but most of these we haven't really heard about because we're no longer in those circles, nor will most people who aren't into that genre. I am hopeful for a new big pop music shake-up similar to what Gaga did in the late 2000's / early 2010's, but I'm not sure at all how that's gonna look. Much of Gaga's fame is thanks to her becoming popular exactly on the cusp of the age of social media, and the Bad Romance music video was one of the hottest things on Youtube, radio and the few music video channels on TV. Nowadays I'm sure something similar would have an effect similar to Lil Nas X's videos which was admittedly huge, but I don't feel like it truly shook up the entire male pop industry. I could be entirely wrong on this though.

The REAL Goobusters posted:I mean Old Town Road was a legit crazy hit and he's been able to keep that pace up with a lot of his other singles afterwards. His album may not have been amazing but Industry Baby did pop off. Yeah, that's fair. I can't remember Old Town Road being a huge hit over here in Norway but Industry Baby and Call me by your Name were huuuuge here. I suppose that also adds another element to the spread of pop music! It used to be that American produced pop music dominated all airwaves and music video channels, but with TikTok even that has opened up for music from a lot of foreign countries. South-Korea being the HUUUUGE one in this situation. We tend to underestimate the power of K-pop in the pop industry.
