Mr. Lobe posted:I'm going to be upset if this costs Jeff his friendship with Cody. He doesn't seem like he has a lot of other friends. If Hijack/Jeff's plan is still to injure another student, he probably could have done so with that shot at Cody. There must be some part of him that values their friendship enough to simply hit him out instead.

Splicer posted:Last panel: Forge or broken god? I'm thinking Forge Well, Forge speaks in that old language, and the broken god did his weird two-voice thing last time he spoke (plus, Max isn't anywhere near his bat). Could it be that myterious follower who later warned Max from the ceiling? Assuming it's the same character, I mean. Actually, did anybody ever have any ideas who/what that thing was? I kinda couldn't think of anything.

Yeah, it probably is PJ. Given how he reacted when overhearing that "We had each others' backs. That's what friends do" back near the start of the chapter, and how Max was maybe about to recognize the voice when told to duck. I had ruled him out because the mysterious silhouette's hand on the tree looked more... manly? But maybe he's just got Lefty with him, or something.

That was Max's spectral energy snapping. The golden switch itself is a Tool. Naturally.

Huh, Hijack came right out from Jeff's head? I kinda thought he was somewhere nebulously above, controlling Jeff with strings. I guess Hijack could have moved closer when Jeff started getting all veiny and red-eyed. ...which started back when Isabel was holding/interrogating him.

Not really a detail, but I love how Violet shoves 2-3 people out of the way in order to keep talking to Jeff as he's walking.

Dang, even after Eightfold's dying speech, Isabel still instinctively runs to her locker to get "some stuff".

You guys are gonna look so foolish in a couple pages when Mr. Garcia ambles casually through this date scene, an exhausted Isaac still stalking him.

Well, we already have things like this: http://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-5-page-57 (last panel) Though it IS Johnny we're talking about, so it's kinda hard to tell if his face really does look particularly anvil-like, or if it's a face he'd be making anyway.

Except that Isaac's barrier seems to be stopping Garcia's hand. Last time Hijack possessed someone, spectral energy went right through the possessee: http://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-5-page-45Renaissance Robot posted:I'm super loving the scene blending, ie locker door = laptop lid, Starchman skate swoosh = Isabel swiping on the touchpad Man, I love it! So much attention to the little details! Even the TAP! sounds of the darts transitioning into Isabel on the keyboard! And a page ago, I was wondering if Starchman was gonna put on a second roller blade, but I can see that would be completely unnecessary.

Ooh, okay. That makes sense. I didn't realize it was a weather thing since it was so close to his spectral color. I can see the windy-ness of it now, though.

Turns out Davy's hook is on his left hand. http://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-5-page-277 I was a little doubtful of it actually being Davy in there, but covering a hand with a costume hook and a hook with a costume hand seems exactly the kind of thing Zack would do.

That comment under the comic. Subtle, if this thread's theories about what's possessing Max are correct.

Another related connection I never noticed (just came across it online a couple weeks back): The fortune teller lady has an association with mice. Her teeth, her necklace, her shelf with a little plush mouse in it, and the mask she wears in the death cultists. And how does this relate to Ms. Baxter? The message Isabel finds on her compter, posted by someone with a mouse avatar who uses emoticons with little mouse ears. The post I found made the connection that the two of them knew each other through the death cultists, and went on the theorize that Ms Baxter was the one who laughed at hearing Forge was destroyed by Mr. Spender. But that bit's still just speculation.

Not only was he seeing and hearing shades by the first night, he was getting spectral energy on his fingertip: https://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-1-page-10 Yeah, I'm gonna guess he was possessed before moving. I guess it's possible the sphinx was looking after him as a fully formed spirit, then offed itself to possess Max when it saw they were about to move?

Ooh, interesting... So there's one other little connection I learned that hasn't become relevant yet. The book that Eightfold had possessed, when she wasn't altering its appearance, is titled "On the Birth of Gods", the author being Dr (hard to tell, might just say "by") A. Beaumont. There's only two spots to see its cover: https://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-4-page-40 https://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-4-page-94 Underneath the author, there's a little motif of a little Pac-Man ghost shape surrounded by decorative swirls. Not much to note, except this design also shows up over the front door of a certain house: https://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-3-page-35 https://www.paranatural.net/comic/chapter-5-page-9 With a better view of this Pac-Man-ghost-shape, you can see it's got one eye and a couple of scars. This may be a stretch, but I'm wondering this design could represent Cody's mom. Unless I totally missed something, we don't know her actual name; Shrike is just a nickname, named for the butcher bird that skewers small animals on thorns to eat later. But she's got the one eye and the scars. The little notebook "Notes on Monsters + the Murder Thereof" shows she WOULD be taking copious notes on monsters and the like, and authoring a book wouldn't be too out of the question. And with the whole "This was just like Castlevania" line, Beaumont would be a pretty good analogue to Belmont...

...and we're back! I recommend pairing this one with your favorite ominous Castlevania tune! I don't have any interesting insights, but looks like we have the last piece of the sphere-chimera from the chapter title page. Unless the eyeball in the middle is still unaccounted-for? I kinda assumed it was one of the eyes from the Angel-animated objects in the Slanted Manse, but it could still be something else.
