I can't wait to see Cresce!

Cresce is a Obama Socialist-Communist Monarchy, from what we've seen/know.

Wait that's who they are? All I remember was them ending up with some people and some ghosts who were unhappy with how lovely things are and then this guy barged out of the basement pissed about something. Definitely don't remember seeing them sacrificing children.

From what I understand, the Black Tongues are a really decentralized group of mages and scholars that have "Progress at all costs!" as their unifying motto. So they can range the gambit to chill guys that just want to make their own spells to baby sacrificing mad scientists.

I'm getting vibes Lemuel's reluctance to marry is less about his career and more about his not liking girls.

You could almost say he's being a bit queer about the issue.

The reader is obviously supposed to find Murkoph sexy and fascinating

I honestly can't tell. Like, I think he's supposed to be sexy (being her fanfic insert and all), but I dunno about fascinating. Revolted seems more on the point.

Perhaps this is just the desperate rationalizations of a man watching a comic go down the drain

I left a comment saying "Starfish was a sexier pedophile than this smug sack of poo poo." It was edited out within seconds.

That comment is still there unedited. At least for me.

I suppose the worry over Murkoph is a bit unfounded- I do have faith in Ashley's ability to tell a story, and usually I'm an advocate of separating the character of an author from their work- so if all the Murkoph stuff she writes and draws is in her eyes just a cathartic thing, well I can understand that.

I guess what skeeved me out so much about him was just the nature of the non-comic stuff I've seen of him. A comic of Murkoph cutting off his head so he can suck his own dick, a chibi-style drawing of a gleeful Murkoph wearing a woman's severed breasts; those sort of things really kind of sicken me, and while I know Unsounded doesn't shy away from depicting horrible things, Murkoph's out-of-comic appearances take it to a whole other level. It's not my story and it's not my call, I just really didn't want to see that sort of thing start happening in this comic, because I feel it would take away from my enjoyment of the narrative. But what's been said makes sense, and I guess I'll just trust that Ashley Cope understands that most people don't find emotional release in watching Murkoph do repulsive things.

Haha goddammit I'm starting to lose some faith again. If he does some crazy poo poo like that, I really hope (and believe) that it'll be relevant to something other than lolrandomness.

We're getting near the end (of the chapter), so I doubt that the thread is much more than the "Here's reality" trail.

It's not Elka - she has a gold boob-plate and this is a silver chestplate. We also don't see her dyed bit of hair on closeups, and the shape of the eyes is different. Bastion also clearly addresses this person with information about Bell's rebellion in a pretty casual manner - it's likely Bastion is correct, and this is just someone Bell has dispatched to keep an eye on the silver as it goes up the river.

Now that we know Ruck is helping both Queen Sonorie and manipulating Bell, I'm very interested to know what his endgame is. He seems too alien to want to do something like run Cresce via Bell-proxy, but he also seems to be really fascinated by people, so I also don't think it's something like "use the Black Tongue's soul research to genocide humans as a whole." He doesn't like that humans are dominant, and likes the Black Tongues worshipping him, but wouldn't that get old for an immortal?

If the description of his race as junkies is anything to go by, I'm assuming the immortal addict has been manipulating things behind the scenes for awhile to set the stage for the perfect hit. 50/50 odds on him getting so high he ascends to a minor deity in the khert.

I see the feminine so readily cast off in fiction in favour of “strong female characters” who are defined solely as chicks who can wield a gun and throw a punch just as well as the dudes. I do not find these characters satisfying. I think feminine strength - emotional strength, forbearance, diplomacy, empathy, nurturing, communication - aren’t given due respect. But maybe if you packaged all them up into a giant green ogre mecha they would be?
sad but true tbh
