Wait, isn't Hungarian supposed to be a Uralic Language? The Atlas I was reading had it at least grouped with Finnish...

Yep.

Most of those are dying languages, only Hungarian, Finnish and Estonian have more than a million speakers.

Proto-Hungarian and Finnic languages separated around 3000 years ago so there's very little common nowadays.

Scotland has tons of famous people and cool national gimmicks, Estonia is a former Soviet state with a notable Russian minority.

I tried to write more serious answer but nah, basically Cool Countries Club doesn't want to stain the brand. Next we'd have to accept Latvia and Lithuania, ack!

Speaking of genes, have some gene maps(?).

Finland used to be quite isolated.

Kuusamo is located in sparsely populated NE Finland and has relatively large amount of genetical diseases (nothing Lovecraftian though). I've read that the researchers love Finland because people haven't mixed a lot and there's good records for several centuries.

Local paper had an article about Finland's history in maps.

Cladius Clavus (1427) - This wasn't included but it's apparently the oldest map that mentions Fin(d)land (center-right)

Hartmann Schedel (1493)

Jacob Ziegler (1532)

Olaus Magnus (1539) - You've seen this one before.
