Tera is awesome, Killing BAMs as a Lancer is probably the most fun I have ever had in an MMO, I wish I gave it more of a chance on release, but the deal breaker was the questing, it was awful, its still awful. The quests are a huge part of the game and the design work behind it is dogshit from 2004, which is SUCH a shame because everything else about it was lightyears ahead of the competition.

Back when it first came out it had that terrible issue of the 1 npc you needed to kill to progress and of course 100 people needed to kill it. Then there was gathering the grass for your mount, which of course everyone wanted as well. It just pissed me off a lot that an MMO in 2012 was still doing this bullshit and so I quit.

It's obviously better then it was. Isle of Dawn is super fast and you get a mount for free right out the gates. You can use all sorts of xp boosters, Avatar Weapons, elite sub, Vanguard Quests, or cash shop items to easily skip huge chunks of bear rear end quests. Dungeons and progression in general is no longer locked behind some kind of attunement or discovery.

But even if you only do the story quests and dungeons, you still have to do a ridiculously amount of back and forth running. The amount of times I have had to make a 15 minute trip back and forth to Allemanthia, through numerous load screens, flights, and teleporters just to relay some message to an npc to progress the story was infuriating. Not to mention the amount of times I repeat a dungeon because I didn't talk to precisely the right npc/boss kill in order of the story.

It just boggles my mind why they phoned in questing so hard when everything else was so fresh.

I have to say that doing the final two quests in the 60-65 area as a lancer is the single most miserable experience I've ever had in this game. The fact that the entire room of enemies immediately aggroes you and ignores the npcs has made it pretty much impossible for me to do. I've read suggestions that you get buffs from priests, stock up on healing and noctenium potions etc, but it seems like such poo poo game design. I've done it on three other characters and none of them had any issue with it, though admittedly two of them were the cheater dps classes.

The funniest thing though is that I ran into two other people in the zone just outside, and helped them through it since it was their first time. One was an archer, and the other was another Lancer. That poor poor bastard's first high level character was a lancer going into this miserable pit. I tried to explain what the internet seemed to think was the key, but he kept wiping just as badly as I was.

Edit: annnd done, piled on all the potions and buffs and crap, and suddenly did the missions without losing more than a tiny sliver of life. Hooray.

 Came here to make this exact post. Zolyns room was fine so long as you don't use Rallying Cry but the confrontation with the archdeva was miserable. I failed it so many times I ended up tediously pulling each mob in the instance one by one and killing them before starting the escort, then buffing myself with any/every powerful consumable I had.

Even worse, his spawned mobs don't despawn so let's hope you still have enough juice left after the cutscene.

AND if you die and didn't bother to run to the catacombs teleporter (and why would you the first time you quest there) it sends you back to the airship camp, but won't let you use the airship again lol, so you have to run back to the fort and into the instance from the very start of the zone.

So I was just following the story quests and got to Labyrinth of Terror.

It said my ilvl was too low to go in so I went to fix it.

Then it told me my character was 1 level too high and I couldn't queue for it.

Ok fine, ill just grab someone lower level and queue with them, no not allowed to do that.

No solo mode for it, solo modes don't even progress story quests (WHY?!)

Thought about waiting to level 60 and just using the Blast from the Past system.

Labyrinth of Terror is not part of Blast from the Past.

Blast from the Past was removed from the game a few weeks ago???

gently caress you, ill just solo it! Nope, first boss has a debuff that completely locks your abilities for an entire minute. (This would have sucked to do alone anyway)

Resort to 2004 mode and shout out in LFG/Area channels for an hour.

Run it with a group of 3 that actually went super smooth.

A 65 can queue for 60 dungeons while a 59 can't queue for a 58 dungeon that drops 60 gear? Someone hosed up rearranging the dungeons.

Gunner, berserker, or Lancer, which is 'more fun' at max lvl?

i like heavy armor and big numbers on the screen.

Its easier to do good damage as a Gunner but you can potentially do more damage as a Zerker.

Lancers are for crazy players who want to face block 1 hit KO attacks every 5 seconds so don't pick one unless that sounds fun to you. (It's the best though)

I'm looking into playing an mmo again. My old game of Vanguard is gone. Can any of you sell me on the game? What other mmo is it like? What's the loot system like?

It's unlike any MMO I have played and thats a huge compliment. The skill cap is crazy high because you can fight without ever getting hit, even as a melee with blocking and dodging.

Combat is actually fun and engaging instead of two square hitboxes exchanging numbers.

Here's a trailer for the game, I thought it did a fine job as selling it and I wish they did a trailer like this for every class.

So I'm just getting started on endgame progression, and I can't seem to find a consensus on what to do after Idoneal. Some guide said to get Ambit gear and just +9 it, but +9 Ambit seems to be at best on par with and at worst significantly worse than Idoneal. So should I go for broke getting +12 Ambit or just stay in Idoneal until I get Discovery? The latter seemed like it would be a bit too ambitious considering I'm still relatively new to the game and could use any training wheels in form of gear I can get, so I spent a few MES (masterwork after 5 scrolls, guess I got lucky) and a lot of alkahest getting my boots to +12 last night, but drat that's going to take a while for the rest of the pieces. Also, should I wait until I have all 4 Ambit pieces before switching because of the set bonuses or is it more a matter of equip it as soon as you have it?

You should +9 and wear Ambit if you have it. Don't Masterwork Ambit except for gloves and weapon. Buy your Discovery boots from the Broker.

So what is the point of this stamina system? I see literally no point to it. Maybe to force you to take a break in real life or something?

The same reason WoW still has resurrection sickness, it's just a legacy they are too lazy to or can't remove.
