The Monk posted:You have some great landscapes, but they are drowned in a sea of very uninspired music and whatever photos. Focus your port around those landscapes. Listen to this man, because he's right. Paring stuff (that you like) down is hard, I know because I'm right in the middle of it myself, but our portfolios will be better for it.

Excellent feedback, thanks guys! As is probably quite obvious the landscapes are what I love doing and the music stuff is my attempt to make money on the side. I've condensed all the music stuff into one 'Events' category now.

Maybe chose one image and display that, your current favorite for example, then cycle through it periodically. That also will keep the page looking fresh.

How many folks have a photo blog on Tumblr or something in addition to their portfolio sites? I set one up the other day and have been enjoying curating a new shot each day.

I've just done a major revamp of my portfolio site here: http://www.thamjingwen.com/ Changed the entire theme, removed some categories and photos, and then added new photos, categories and pages. Also linked it to my blog which is using Tumblr as well.

Tried out the Metro UI / Win 8 and thought; "wow, this could work perfectly as a gallery." http://gallery.rafaelfyen.se/ So I mostly did it to get off my rear end and do a personal website project. But halfway through I discovered that I had photos that fit into a theme, my hometown. It's not really super-focused, but it's a start at least. I'm thinking about doing a project around leisure time outdoors in Malmö, during next year starting from January. My city has a lot of parks, outdoor gyms, and play fields for soccer and what-have-you. LAchristus posted:Just got myself a new site, so why not show it off! I've been going at this for 1,5 years now, posting pictures almost daily when I can. It's now recently come into a phase where I get so much new followers and likes and mail that tumblr consolidates these updates into one big digest for me. Oh, I also have created a new portfolio site, although the image sequencing is still debatable. http://manuelvandyck.com

I've been on Tumblr for a few years, and I've got around 170 followers now. I just upload stuff straight from flickr which includes all the tags, along with iPhone pictures of cameras and processes I'm working on. It's kinda funny, I'll look on my flickr stats and see a bunch of hits from Tumblr and follow where the linked page is and see 100+ likes/reblogs, but I'll typically get 5-10 per photo on my own Tumblr posts. The most I've had for one of mine on Tumblr 60ish. And I post probably 2-4 times a months depending on how much I shoot. And here's my tumblr: https://www.mrstudent.tumblr.com I'm glad you posted your portfolio, I'd only seen a few of your shots here in there, they're fantastic.

For me, it's just about sharing but also like other blogs- sharing and reblogging other people's genuinely good content. The complete opposite of self indulgent "i'm eating" or "i'm currently pooping" facebook/twitter stuff. My guess is like ZippySLC said, people also find you through the tags. Maybe you can do some searches for similar tags and follow people with similar content/interests.

That scrollbar is awful. I can't use any of the normal methods I normally use to scroll right: right arrow, click middle-mouse then pull right, or drag window scrollbar. It actually took me about 20 seconds to even find it.

I was going to mention the scrollbar, but didn't know how to bring it up without sounding like a jerk. I guess the right scrolling photog portfolio is the "thing" now, but it drives me up a wall. Right scrolling on a website is just about the most unnatural thing to do.

Scrolly bar issue aside, In the port I would take out the dogs, the dairy products and one of the ladies clutching her head. Not that they arent good photos, but they seem a bit jarring thematically in what's mostly people and redundant in the case of the head clutching ladies. I would make a different set with the product type shots, just because the audiences for products and model photography would seem different enough to me where mixing loses the attention of both.

I just set up a new site on square space - http://www.calypsoraephotography.squarespace.com. I'm working on transferring my domain over so hopefully that happens shortly. Do you find the mouse controls confusing? I have the option of having it say "next/prev" but I'd prefer to leave them off if it's pretty intuitive. Also I have way to many images in my wedding gallery so I have to thin that out a bit.

I really like tumblr for posting photos. It gives you a lot of freedom over presentation, and number of notes feels like pretty honest feedback, at especially compared to those group badge comments on flickr. That being said, if you look into who reblogs your stuff, you'll see some pretty weird poo poo, at least if you are me. My link: https://www.maskineriet.tumblr.com
