I'm pretty sure LotFP is also missing content-generating stuff like random encounters and reaction rolls, which I've understood are a fairly important part of actually making a game of Old Dungeons tick.

The setting's pretty cool, although it suffers fom being a wargame setting where everyone's at war with each other all the time. I haven't played the modern rules, but I recall hearing they're decent, if miniature-heavy.

Eh, I dunno. You can opt to pay $0 to the publishers and direct all the money to Humble and charity. Goodman Games don't suck iirc so you can play DCC and not feel bad.
