This is going to sound embarassing, but I found everything in the scavenger hunt but Ravenloft. I just can't find the pumpkin on the main page.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I agree with you about Red Tide. His Spears of the Dawn RPG was pretty neat as well.

Yup, same one. I never got around to a full review because I had other stuff on my plate, products which I had already bought and looked more promising/fun to review. Magical Medieval Society was to be part of a series called "Courtroom Reviews" where I judge a product based on its advertised promises, and whether or not it delivered. In Magical Medieval's case, it was providing advice for replicating the society of Medieval Europe into 3rd Edition D&D games. I can definitely say that it failed.

In the meantime, The Kobold Guides were overall good reads, and Red Tide is an awesome sourcebook. I can't speak to the Tome of Adventure Design or Masks, as I own neither.

Paizo Publishing is having the 2013 Great Golem Sale to clear out their warehouse, including but not limited to RPG books.

My recommendations:

Tales of the Caliphate Nights for $3.00, a True20 game set in mythic Arabia.

Dragon Magazine #351 for $2.00, contains the excellent World Serpent Inn article.

Monte Cook's Collected Book of Experimental Might for $3.00. Hundreds of options and house rules Cook made for 3rd Edition.

Granted, they're d20 books, but I really enjoyed Caliphate Nights, as it makes a great setting which can be transferred to other rulesets with some work. I might F&F it someday...

Holy poo poo, that's cheap for that book! If you're the least bit interested in a D&D fantasy Africa, buy it now. That thing goes for at least $100 on Amazon nowadays.

Maid... is interesting, at least. The main point of contention is one of the sample characters included repeatedly throughout the book is an underage-character-that-is-a-creepy-stalker archetype that seems to get a lot of mileage in anime, but as far as I'm concerned can die in a fire. There's some mild fetish smut in the equipment section. It's frustrating because the game was probably the first game with "heartwarming" elements that came over, at one point I ran the Happy Birthday scenario for a party, it was basically the characters trying to one-up each other with ways to make a sick child happy, and was basically the most adorable thing. So there is fun to be had, you just have to be willing to overlook the questionable elements.

It's more than that. In an RPG.net thread circa 2008, there was a part in the book brought up where a 10-14 year old girl was molested in the flavor text and the whole thing was played for laughs.

Ewen and co. forgot to excise it in the translation due to poor editing, and it upset an awful lot of people. In further reprintings, the material was excised out after he listened to peoples' concerns.

So yeah, Ewen hosed up big time, but instead of doubling down or screaming "free speech" he made changes; and there has yet to be any creepy sex poo poo in his other works.

Saying this upfront, this is self-promotion of my company.

From now until New Year's Day I'm having a Christmas Sale on Drive-Thru RPG. If you're a fan of Pathfinder or OSR sourcebooks (or both!), then you'll probably find my selected works of interest.

Everything's half off at very affordable prices ($2-$3), including my books from the Game Writing Workshop thread.

I have never played Pathfinder and I don't know if I ever will, but a supplement called Nice Things for Fighters is loving brilliant and I was instantly sold

If you do play Pathfinder, then I recommend finding a GM open-minded enough about the system's flaws. Say what you will about min-maxers, at least they're very aware of how overpowered spellcasters can be. In all my time at Min-Max Boards I never once saw a non-troll who argued that Fighters were on par with Wizards (an argument which is much more common on other 3.X message boards).

You'll have a much more fun time with an MMer who knows when to reign it in, than a GM who's a 'realism advocate" and is far too worried about 'overpowered' martials dominating the game.

I also agree with PresidentBeard's above comment; DreamScarred's a very good company whose knack for game design is pretty much unparalleled in the 3rd Party fandom.

So D20 Pathfinder SRD is holding a 40% off sale on the vast majority of their online store, which includes all sorts of stuff by 3rd party publishers and even some non-Pathfinder games.

My entire product catalog is part of the sale. Although I price my sourcebooks at reasonable rates in comparison to other 3rd party products of similar size, now you can get them at real bargain prices.

This deal (both mine and the rest of the site) lasts only for today.

Victoriana is pretty good about not making it about gears and the color brown. They address the costs of colonialism, militarism, and industrialization so it's far from being cogservatism.

Just an fyi, the books that don't have the circular picture are 2nd edition books. This isn't a big deal, you're still getting most of the 3rd edition books except for The Concert in Flames which is a guide to Europe.

Please tell me that cogservatism is an actual phrase used in steampunk fan circles.

Is this book really Pathfinder-specific, or would it work well with 5e? (Which already started to do away with alignments.)

I don't know enough about 5E mechanics and how they handle alignment to weigh in on that. I wrote it specifically for Pathfinder in that the game mechanics of that system are sufficiently intertwined that removing it will create ripple effects on many classes, spells, magic items, etc.

I do talk about things like morality alternatives such as a 3-axis alignment (Good/Neutral/Evil) and thought experiment essays exposing some fundamental problems that gaming groups should work out or be aware of, like how the evil alignments as written in Pathfinder require a specific set of anti-social personality disorders in order to qualify for; meaning that by RAW a warlord or dictator committing horrible atrocities with the best of intentions can still be non-evil.

Endzeitgeist is a very well-known reviewer in the Pathfinder fandom, but he's branched out into other systems as well. Due to living in Germany, it's ordinarily too expensive for him to attend Gen Con.

A bunch of third party publishers got together to release a "Bring Endzeitgeist to Gen Con" bundle, where 100% of the profits are to pay for his expenses.

It's $210 worth of books for $35, and there's a Pay What You Want as a non-bundle option too.

The majority of the products are Pathfinder and 5E, but a lot of them are highly regarded among said communities, such as Secrets of the Masquerade Reveler, Courts of the Shadow Fey, and For Lent, Lease, & Conquest.

Do you have a favorite?

Regarding my own work? Well so far Death to Alignment is something I had the most satisfaction writing, in that I felt such a thing was necessary for Pathfinder and covered a lot of ground for gamers to actually delete it from their games without suffering unforeseen ripple effects. I also enjoyed showing off the ridiculousness of alignment via thought experiments, like how several inconsistent definitions throughout editions and elf favoritism make it far from an objective morality trope.

I'm currently working on a magic school hex crawl which will be the most comprehensive work to date once it gets released. So in time that book may eclipse Death to Alignment as my favorite, given the amount of love and labor I put into its creation.

Wizards of the Coast and Kobold Press are going to be releasing free (and discounted) 5th Edition D&D content for the holiday season.

In regards to WotC they already put out a collection of Dragonlance monsters, while for Kobold Press they put out a short adventure. WotC's schedule is one product a day up to Christmas. I don't know KP's schedule.

Figured to let fans here now for a place to regularly check back.
