I'm thinking about buying the Galaxy S4 from Google and using that on AT&T. My plan would be to use my upgrade to get an iPhone 5 and sell it new in box on eBay and then activate the S4. Would there be any issue regarding AT&T thinking I have an iPhone 5? I noticed that the data plan also mentions iPhone in the name, so I'm not sure if there is any problem there.

No, the data plan would be switched from the iPhone (with VVM) to android (without VVM) automatically.

Also double check the aftermarket prices on iPhone 5's vs S4 just to be sure. I didn't think iphones were worth all that much anymore, even BNIB. You might be able to get more for an AT&T S4 and buy the unlocked one after that.

I was looking at completed auctions for iPhone 5s and they were around $600. I was also amazed to see that I could sell my iPhone 4 for ~$200, leaving the S4 to be $50 if all goes to plan.

If you have a sim card from an existing iphone 4, you will need a new LTE sim card.

Any ATT corp store will always activate a free SIM card for your account provided you are listed as an authorized user and you have a state ID (it is staggering how many people don't have any ID on them).

The latter option is much better. Although, look for an independent repair place. Got one in town that will fix a button for $40 parts and labor.

So as a follow up I sold it for $150 here on SA. They will repair it and use it themselves. I think I really need to learn how to repair these phones as it may save me money in the long run.

Ultimately I actually received a total of $450 for my iPhone as I received a $299 refund from AMEX's extended warranty dept.

And now I have a beautiful iPhone 5.

I put in a request on Sunday. Submitted electronically, it was fairly easy and took less than 15 minutes. I received a quick e-mail confirming my submission and an update the following day. On Wednesday via e-mail I received a confirmation that my request was accepted and that same day a $299 credit was issued to my AMEX card. So basically the process took 3 days and I did not have to talk to a single human.

The only downside is that the phone obviously costs more than $299 so it was pretty ideal that I was ready for a new phone on my AT&T account.

Do you need coverage or are you just not using your phone? If you're not using the phone just put it in airplane mode.

They've really cut back on that kind of stuff. You're basically stuck.

Saw something interesting today with one of my users. Logged into the corp premier page and the guy can get a full discount on any non apple phone, but iPhone's were showing half discount, not the full discount. I told him to come back in another billing cycle to see if it fixes itself.

Strange he can get the full subsidy on the new OneX but not a refurb iPhone5

If you threaten to quit and play chicken with AT&T they will probably give you a discount on your current service which you can use to fund an android phone purchase.

All customers are eligible (after 6 months with their current phone) for an exception upgrade. Some stores use it rarely. Our store uses it all the time.

Meaning partial or full upgrade? Managers can override those at my store for full upgrades as well, but it hits our budget and quite frankly most stores just aren't going to take a budget hit on a current customer. Everything is about tablets and mifis now a days.

Sometimes you have to follow through for it to work.

AT&T couldn't give me a straight answer on when my data would get throttled. I got answers of 2, 3, and 5GB. I was supposed to be on 5. I threatened to leave and they gave me a number to call that is basically loss prevention. I told them to give me the 5GB I had or I'd leave. They said it couldn't be done, so I went and switched. The next morning, they called offering the 5GB plus 6 months of discounts. So, I'm now back with AT&T.

I was just going to ask about this. I noticed that my bill was $2 higher when I paid it tonight.

Where was the prior notice for this? Only one of my three lines is under contract right now, and this isn't endearing me to their network.

Edit: Several people have already used this to be able to get out of their contracts with no ETF.

Several people from where? The administrative fee is actually exempt from ETF waviers as it is considered a "below the line" fee. There are actually provisions in the contract that explicitly say "we are able to increase the amount of administrative without prior notice.

What I'm trying to say is, don't expect to get out of your contract because contractually you shouldn't be able to, by the terms; I'm not saying that I agree with it.

Different commenters on the articles that have popped up regarding this. Couple more on Reddit. I'm not expecting them to let me out of my contract, but others are reporting that they have gotten a credit on their next bill to offset this fee over the remainder of their contract.

I've been a customer since 2002, and this kind of sneaky crap is enough to get me to leave. It is only $22 per year, but I'm already paying $200 per month.

My other two lines are getting the next iPhone when that comes out, and I will be porting those numbers to another carrier.

Official ATT policy on the trade ins now is they just be with an upgrade or new line, so you have a low chance at it by this point. Mileage will vary, but they are closing the loopholes.

Umm that's a terrible deal, especially if you already have a device. I'm guessing you mean AT&T prepaid? I have friends with much cheaper and better prepaid plans.

Honestly the best thing is to get on a family plan if you can. $40 gives me unlimited talk and text with 5GB of data, and I just have my bank set up to send that to my parents monthly.

Yea, compared to a lot of stuff out there its not. I work in a market where its just Verizon and AT&T, prepaids like Net10 and Straight Talk don't work in a lot of areas around here either. My hope is they'll offer more prepaid/different plans. But if you're someone who doesn't use a lot of data its still cheaper than having a contract plan on your own.

Sadly I work in a Verizon dominated market. But either way, if you have friends you trust, get on a family plan. Get the higher QoS and split the bill. It is very worth it.

Today is the last day for the $100 trade in, which does now require a purchase of a device with a 2 year contract.

Fun story, we had a guy come in wanting to purchase an iPad with a two trade ins (metro Pcs smartphones). But when we said sure, and this is the plan you get he balks and says he wants to buy it no plan. We of course say sorry, 2 year contract. "ok I'll just buy the iPad outright" and he pulls out two AT&T gift cards with $500 between them.

Anyway, that's my story on how ATT really didn't think through the promo when they launched it.

I'm so angry about this promotion. It was so useful to sell iPads, Jamboxes, and various other high end things. Then AT&T had to go and gently caress it up by advertising, "Get the hottest smartphones up to %50 off!" NO! They are already coming in for an upgrade. Let us use this tool to sell other things.

Sorry, that's my rant for the day.

Also, are you sure it is ending today? I didn't see a specified end date.

EDIT: Not to be a bitch and try to prove you wrong (I only do this with the love of AT&T in my heart :iamafag:), but MyCSP states changes they are making to the trade in system June 2nd to make the promotion easier to manage. So, I assume it will extend into at least next month.

That, or you just said that to get people here to get into your store, in which case then I feel like a real dick.
