I just can't loving stand Boruto in the manga, but it's mostly this last two chapters that he's even worse than usual. When he used those ninja tech jutsu to cheat during the chuunin exam was one thing, but now he just hates them on principle cause he thinks it's underhanded and doesn't miss a chance to poo poo on them. What a loving hypocrite, when he had to use it during the chuunin exam and win fights it was all good, but now that you got caught even a loving smoke/flash grenade is unfair. Really now, this ninja thinks a smoke grenade is unfair! He needs to shut the gently caress up, he's so bitter that he's a failure that can't pass with his own strength the super easy chuunin exam.

He hates them precisely because he realises he was an rear end in a top hat during the chunin exam and that he was wrong.

E: Like, Boruto ain't exactly a good character but that's not hypocritical.

Is that the real reason, so does he hate the gadgets because using them caused him to fail the exam?

He's a kid, he failed to grasp why Naruto said hey maybe don't use these in the Chunnin exam, but these tools are super useful to be studying and have if we need them.

He overcorrected on the lesson he was supposed to take from the chunin exam fiasco

I'd like to assume this is how Naruto went about punishing Sasuke's war crimes. Just waited 'till a month after his inauguration to send a text to the Raikage and Sasuke that there'll be consequences if they fight again.

I think there was a tweet or some advertisement along the lines of "Want to know the story of Boruto's Dad? Subscribe to Crunchyroll and watch all of Naruto for free for 30 days!"

Or something like that

yeah but youd have to skip the intro/ed and recaps probably. not sure why you would tho. if you're including shippuden that'd be harder. you can also skip like every episode past 150 of the original until shippuden since its all filler.

I know someone who watched all of it over 30 days including Shippuden.

He was unemployed and a crazy person.

If you include Shippuden and what's aired so far of Boruto that's nearly 800 episodes worth of material. I suppose it could be possible if you literally did nothing else all day.

There are around ~12 days of Naruto content to watch. And that's if you don't cut any of the openings/closings/previews.

So yeah it's doable.

My last attempt to watch Naruto years back was at like 2 times speed (I think using VLC?), skipping all the intros and whatever, and the glacial pacing of the animation was still so painful to watch. I feel like anyone who attempts to watch every episode in a month should consider checking into a mental health facility.

The first two arcs of Shippuden stretched things out to "5 minutes until Namek explodes" levels. Apparently nobody liked that, so latter arcs were better paced with filler between them.

I wonder if you could read the whole manga in 30 days? 2.4 volumes per day doesn't seem like that much; maybe a few hours each day.

Okay I had nothing to do over the weekend so I ended up going back and watching the Konoha–Suna Joint Chunin exams (Where the members of the Hidden Leaf 11 that didn't pass the exam before re-took the exams in the desert) and it was quite enjoyable.

I only got as far as somewhere in the 60's in the Shippuden anime because I was sick of all the filler, tell me where to start and what I need to really watch to get the plot of Naruto down

There's a bunch of filler episodes sprinkled throughout, even in the canon arcs, so you're best off finding one of those guides that tells you what's what. That being said the main story arcs from part 2 are Kazekage rescue, Sai/Reunion arc, Hidan and Kakuzu arc, Itachi v Sasuke, Pain arc, Kage Summit arc, and then the ninja world war which is like 10 arcs or something because it's the rest of the story. Everything else isn't relevant to the ending, but I can't speak to the quality since I haven't watched most of it.

Sounds like you quit during the filler right before hidan/kakuzu, so I'd just start with that one (wiki says it starts on episode 72).

Though that filler arc introduces a concept that actually ends up being relevant in a later arc. Kinkaku and Ginkaku are Pseudo-Jinchuuriki like Sora,
giving the bad guys a non-Naruto source of the Nine-Tails' chakra.

they explain what their deal is when they first appear. it isn't so complex a concept that an anime filler arc is needed to explain it.

How are the Bort manga/anime? I know they’re two different stories. I keep seeing Boruto on Crunchyroll and was curious.

Does Boruto have any 9-tails poo poo yet? I really hope not, though I know he definitely already has some byakugan eyehax poo poo.

Boruto anime is good an fun, Boruto manga is a garbage fire dressed in hooker boots.

He does not have the 9 Tails, and currently nobody knows what the poo poo is up with his eye. It showed up for a single arc and kinda faded away since then.

The anime has been surprisingly good so far (especially if you liked pre-Shippuden Naruto), don't even bother reading the manga though.

The manga’s getting influenced by the anime anyways, since class rep just showed up in it with all the implied history from the anime with her. So the anime’s basically the ideal version of the story anyways.

Well considering the anime started with the same flashforward the manga did and has already adapted Sarada Gaiden and Mitsuki's origin I'm guessing we're going to start seeing some material from the main manga get adapted later down the line. Hopefully they'll be able to salvage something from it seeing as they already said they were going to be rewriting the movie when they get to it in the anime.

Despite the excessive amounts of filler and padding I've personally always preferred the Naruto anime for a number of reasons (fight scenes, elaborating on some stuff the manga just kind of glossed over, giving a plausible reason why Naruto and Sasuke could be considered friends, making Tenten into an actual character, etc).

My main problem with the Manga has been the garbage art.

So long as the Anime doesn't change the key art It'll be acceptable.

I have a certain affection for some of the anime-only stuff myself. I liked Hinata's larger role (although her performance in the Deva Path fight was maybe going a bit too far), fleshing out the backstories of people like Anko and Ibiki, and many of the fights against filler villains. I liked the broad strokes of the Kakashi/Tenzo backstory (even if the fight scenes involved too much kunai instead of ninjutsu, and Danzo and Hiruzen both came across as kind of dumb).

My biggest complaint is that the general plots of the filler arcs tend to be formulaic. Common recurring tropes:

  • Naruto and a couple of other genin are assigned to escort someone who doesn't get along with Naruto. They eventually develop a grudging respect for each other.
  • Naruto meets an enemy who turns out to be "the same as me!" and gets redeemed.
  • The mission involves a potential lead to the location of Sasuke and Orochimaru that doesn't pan out, but Naruto and friends defeat the villains they encounter along the way.
  • Naruto technically fails the mission despite beating the villains.
  • Naruto defeats (kills? It's weird how little of a deal is made of this even though I don't think Naruto actually kills a human in the manga) the main villain with Rasengan.
  • Naruto encounters a minion or experiment of Orochimaru, usually a quasi-failed experiment.

Edit: The wiki credits Naruto with killing Yura (the guy who got turned into an Itachi clone with 30% of Itachi's chakra). I would argue that Yura was already killed by Pain creating the Itachi clone, but it is true that Naruto intended to kill Itachi there.
