Wait Wait Wait.

We know there is only one test for a QOTSA drummer. And this is it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71bZk2K224Q

I think he actually captures the groovy feel of Dave's original recording better than Joey. :spergin:

So silly question, but I remember them chopping and changing the setlist each night when I saw them (during the Era Vulgaris tour). Do they just play the same shows at festival, or do you think they only have a small mount of material with the new drummer?

Also for a laugh, Dave Grohl playing Hanging Tree

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TkVl8scFFw

He plays it C C C C# instead of C C C D which is why it sounds "dark" or "wrong"

That's sad, Avon, If Only and Regular John were some of my favorite songs and I didn't the band on the Queens of the Stone Age tour. Although looking at the setlist of the last show I saw apparently I heard Avon but I don't remember it too well. :iiam:

double edit: Last time they played a non festival show in Australia from memory they were playing the same night same time as Primus and I literally had one of those fits of indecision meaning I saw neither band. :suicide:

Alain Johannes posted in the Youtube comments there that Dave played it correctly (how it was originally played) to correct someone else and I can't stop laughing at that.

After watching Sound City I just decided Grohl was a grumpy old man who didn't know what he was talking about so I just assumed he didn't know how to play the song. I guess I was wrong. :negative:

Just so we're clear he's a great guy, amazing drummer, I just got sick of the "digital is ruining music but it's okay if Reznor uses it because he's an artist" bullshit the doco spouted

Looking at the setlists of the festivals they've been playing I'm kind of disappointed that they've been playing the same one over and over again. Think this is just because of the new line-up and getting them up to speed with all the songs? Because I hope when they start touring venues in Europe there's a more diverse set of tracks.

Then again, speaking of playing the same thing over and over again.

MinibarMatchman posted:

Tough to say for now, since there's only been one full setlist thus far. The second one I've seen included the same songs as the first one, plus a few more. I think the only thing that's certain is an absence of self-titled album stuff; IIRC Josh said playing all those songs for that album re-release tour made them sick, sick, sick of it.

I'll add two things, 1) obviously the new drummer, and 2) I think they generally just play the "hits" as they were during the shorter Festival shows.

Interestingly like Go With The Flow, My God is the Sun could be played with guitars tuned standard. I don't know if they are (I'm pretty sure Go With the Flow is played with gutiars in C, even if it could be played on a standard tune guitar) but it's cool to note something so heavy is in E.

Just got back from the Calgary show. It was alright. The only song they didn't play from the new album was the title track, so it was a bit top-heavy in that regard, but In The Fade and Better Living were kickass.
