duwang definitely is the 'comedy option' but it's the type of comedy that wears off really quickly so i genuinely wouldn't recommend it unless you've already read that part. also lmao if you honestly think that arc 6 would get cut for the anime

also, it's not really a spoiler but vento aureo is the least relevant arc in the entire series. so, i mean, if for some reason you don't entirely understand what the gently caress happened to diavolo i can assure you that you'll be fine. stone ocean is good in any case, so enjoy it. everything afterwards is also great.

i really like the ending song of the new season of stardust but i guess i have the hindsight of what actually happens to put it in context. i mean, this poo poo isn't dragonball z. no need to have super crazy music all the time.

i'm still genuinely surprised that part 3 is so popular when it's the most boring arc that involves stands.

part 4 is the 'always sunny in philadelphia' arc of the series and it worked well for making characters more interesting since they had more interactions between each other. hell, even joseph got another layer added on top of him already being awesome. i also never thought i'd be so interested in seeing jotaro and josuke go hunt rats, but here we are.

i'd genuinely be sad if they left out any of the parts because they're sitting on a relatively consistent goldmine if nothing else given the backlog they could work through.

araki does some neat stuff with the whole 'new universe' thing in arcs 7 and 8, and he's probably one of the few people i've ever seen who can pull off callbacks and references well.

there's really no point in skipping any of them. i'm not sure why people would want to do that, since the later parts aren't going to magically disappear in the meanwhile.

arc 5 matters the least out of every arc but it definitely has a lot of cool stuff also you can experience the phenomenon of 'araki retcons something a few pages later because it's too odd for jojo's'

ManlyGrunting posted:Araki is a lot like any given Jojo: he's not so good at thinking in the long term, but his amazing bullshit short term thinking leads to off-the-wall insane stuff that's wondrous to behold. on the subject of arc 5 this pretty much sums up parts of it like the infamous 'the people have aliens in them' part or whatever the gently caress that was when silver chariot was walking around that got dropped after a few pages and everyone forgot about it. also the entire concept of king crimson as a whole which is kinda neat on the surface but if you think about it for too long your brain starts to ooze out of your ears.

# ¿ Jan 18, 2015 22:16 |

i mostly meant that king crimson could have done so much more with its power with what i said, but okay. there's a handful of absurdly strong stands and diavolo could have very easily taken out the vast majority of them if he wasn't limited by Plot.

i'm pretty sure that heirophant green being able to uncoil itself is just a power of the stand itself and not evidence of some 'thing' that all stand users can do if they believe in themselves enough despite how well that would fit in anime. the lovers fight was already odd enough.

it's weird because the arrow never really seems to have a smooth transition from death to getting a stand. either they magically get a stand and live because they're cool enough to have a punch ghost or they straight-up die. same with whatever the hell it was in steel ball run. i'm not sure if it was a conscious decision after part 3's sickness stuff or if araki just kinda stop caring about adding that detail.

yeah i'm pretty sure it made the point that koichi was going to die without josuke intervening. other people were generally pretty fine afterwards but he was very much bleeding out and dying right there.

he moves a little bit away from the whole 'punch ghost' thing and while there's still some like that there's a lot more weird experimentation for reasons you'll find out later in the arc. also all of them are pretty fitting for the time they're in, which is pretty cool. the same ideas carry on into part 8 and i can only assume that araki figured out over time that the more out-there and not exactly super powerful stands are pretty interesting. in summary: steel ball run and jojolion are cool as gently caress
