Clusterfuck like the second half of Kemonozume clusterfuck? or is it just bad

Spice and Wolf isn't really what I'm looking for... I think what I'm looking for is def. more a shonen thing than anything romantic. Not enough of a focus on brick flipping. Capitalism is about war, not Love! I will look into Kaiji

[C] is just bad. The concept was interesting enough, and it's short so it's not a huge waste of time if it sounds possibly interesting to you.

Looking for something chilled out with nice music that I can watch before bedtime. I don't want any explosions or shrieking, thanks. It can still have action, but it better be slow and calculated. Something like a better Bartender would be ideal.

Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) is a real nice show with plenty of good jazz. The relationship stuff gets a little annoying but overall really chill and nice.

And no special music, but Hyouka is really fantastic.

Also, I love shows that have conventional plots, but with the main character being a horrible, broken person. Is there anything outside of Evangelion that's like that?

Btooom! fits this well, but it's not that great. Mirai Nikki also turns into this (excluding the main character, mostly).

No. Disregard my first post entirely. I'm looking for an entirely different set of shows to get in on. No broken people. Just happiness as far as the eye can see.

vvvvv Are you joking with me? I've been told by the anime fans I know never to watch K-on. Something about creepy fans?

I know you don't want broken now, but broken/happiness works really well in Hyokua, and it's really great.

Haruhi Suzumiya as well.

Hyouka was recommended to me when I asked for chill stuff and I see how it fits the bill of problem solving, though I only managed to watch about 4 episodes before giving up because I didn't like the art style/setting very much. Shame, since I love the idea of an amateur detective crew solving mundane mysteries.
Monster is one of my favourites.

Please keep going with it. The strange art dials down a whole lot. The setting doesn't change too much, but it does a little bit later (there are a few more mysteries than just the Hyouka one). It really is great.

They have called me out on torrenting before and I haven't done anything since then. However, my roommate torrents GameCenter CX (which is unlicensed) without repercussion. From the message I received last time, it seems that the it department is notified by an outside group of activity that matches torrents. But even if they do call me out on torrenting again, I can at least show them that it isn't copyright infringement since the product is unlicensed.

This is starting to derail a bit, so lets get back to recommending.

Get a VPN and then your uni won't have any idea your using torrents. Universities tend to just shout at you once they see torrent traffic of any kind.

Also don't bother with peerblock. The only thing it actually does is slow your download speeds.

Any reason Gundam Wing isn't getting any love? I understand its cheesy and all, but iirc isn't wing basically the series that got most US people into anime along with DBZ?

One of the few people in Adtrw, anyway. It's wing lovers and g gundam not likers in my circle of friends. Hardly hard evidence, but I've only ever felt like the odd man out about this here.

I still think he should check it out.

Am I the only one that at least a little bit likes both?

Pumpkin Scissors is reasonably down to earth set in a alternative universe somewhat similar to pre WW2 Europe. It has been dubbed, but I can't vouch for the quality!

It's set after a world war, in a recovering country where everything is still very much run by the military. It's about the adventures of a military unit called "Pumpkin Scissors" (naturally a rag-tag band of misfits) that were formed to provide relief from the war. The story deals with state conspiracies, power games and secret specialised wartime units that now have nothing to do since the war ended.
It isn't at all gritty and realistic, but it isn't over the top either. From what I remember it was relatively upbeat, with serious bits.
Main characters are Captain whatshername - the naive but clever and strong willed Captain of the unit, and Corporal whatshisname - the silent but gentle giant who had a past with a top secret ridiculous military unit.

Keep in mind, I've only seen it once (and that was in 2007!) so it might not have stood the test of time - but I do remember enjoying it. I remember it had a catchy opening song.

I was actually going to post this show before I saw your post. There are some iffy points, but I remember really enjoying it.

I guess that's just my posting habit. I just don't post something if someone else already has, which means I basically never post praise. All I wanted from Code Geass was to be entertained by some guy making people do crazy poo poo with his mind control powers like I saw in a AMV Hell clip. That's literally it. So far it feels like I've wasted an hour on a Japanese victim complex, technobabble, politicsbabble, robots, high school, and a shower scene. I watched the first episode of Valvrave and I enjoyed that way more.

Can you elaborate? Does the show get better, or did you suddenly learn to enjoy the things I listed?

Also the early parts of Death Note are really good cheesy fun, like the early parts of Dexter. The rest is crap though.

The problem is your getting your recommendations from AMV hell.

You also can't talk about death note simultaneously being the best thing you've ever seen and "parts are good cheesy fun but the rest is crap" on the same page of a thread.

So Attack on Titan convinced me to snag a crunchyroll subscription and now I need a couple more shows to get my money's worth. More actiony/sci-fi stuff is great. I like Lovecraftian creepiness too as well as steampunk/victorian/sherlockian shenanigans as well.

Basically anything well written that is more horror than harem would be right up my alley. Well-written as far as plot and pacing at least. The dialog is going to be destroyed by cheap translations anyway.

From the New World is a must. As long as you get to episode 4, When They Cry is great.
