One that never gets mentioned that more people should read is Gamaran: http://www.mangahere.com/manga/gamaran/

It's a fight of the week style comic with lots of sword fighting dudes. The combat is visualized better than any of the other comics I'm reading right now and the story is just getting to the point where they're going to fight the big bad that has been depicted as the strongest guy all series long. It doesn't get talked about much here because there isn't much to actually discuss, though. Most characters have an average life span of three issues so most discussion would probably be "Oh, this new guy is kind of bad rear end" followed by "welp, he's dead".

Still, you should read it if you like comics about dudes fighting with swords (and sometimes other sharp/pointy objects).

Hajime no Ippo (boxing) is one of the greats, though over the course of its extremely long run readers have rightly begun criticizing mangaka Morikawa George for recycling his plots, pushing characters the audience doesn't like to the point of absurdity, and basically being lazy and coasting on the series' established popularity. Still, when it was good, it was really really good.

Drawing a blank on others right now, may edit the post later when more come to mind.

Don't start reading Ippo. Read RRR instead.
