Thanks! Stein's Gate (vague) spoilers: I like how bitter sweet the character specific endings are. It is a really good balance. Most works of fiction never do it right. MegaZeroX fucked around with this message at 02:42 on Jun 12, 2014 |

MegaZeroX posted:Thanks! Stein's Gate (vague) spoilers: Was that where she had to cancel her prank and tell her dad she loved him even though it would mean he would die? I guess I finished Cross+channel just now. It just kept having more endings. And then it ended and I feel like I missed a step. whether he goes crazy in his own personal closed space or achieves completeness and humanity but can't leave it's still a heartbreaking ending. Does the sound of cicadas in the last scene mean he woke up in reality again? There were no animals or insects in the closed space. I don't know if that was the outside waiting for him or him waking up on the outside.

The point is that he can't be with other people; he'll inevitably hurt them, so the only peace he'll ever find is being alone. That is his ending, being alone forever. You can go read Tower of Friends next if you want.

But that line of thinking led to his near-suicide attempt, then he had the revelation about nanaka and decided he wanted other people. He was looking at the gate back to reality that is gone and said he'd come back hoping it would ever open up again, even if it takes forever. He wants to leave but can't, he is going to rebuild the radio and send out a message on sunday before the world resets and the gate doesn't open, for all time. At least that was how I read it. E: Vndb.org forwards any search for "tower of friends" to cross+channel. But it's not listed as a sequel or related work or alternate title or anything. I don't get it. Almost done with G-Senjou, and I was pleasantly surprised by Shiratori's route. I always thought that she was a high-strung loner but she's actually pretty darn adorable. Also, the whole suspension bridge effect part was great. Tokita's my favourite type of supporting character.

I never did the middle route for that game. Not the druggy street urchin, not the bullied girl, the third. I Don't know what her deal was but I had Had Enough at that point. The old thread's OP recommended Kira*Kira but the main lady's voice is so obnoxious. I made it as far as them learning twinkle twinkle on the roof and I'm just hoping there's more to it than putting together a band and performing at the spring festival, besides putting a skirt on at some point.

Apparently Niconico's going to try their hand at official VN livestreams, starting with Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi, with the game set to auto mode and choices done by user poll. 18+ scenes are going to be replaced with footage of Sumou matches.

Well, I can honestly say I didn't expect (G-Senjou spoilers) Maou to be Kyousuke's older brother. The game utterly convinced me that Kyousuke himself was Maou. Well done, Akabesoft. Well done.

That twist is awful as it's there purely to be a twist and throw away the coolest aspect of the game's plot. It's foreshadowed in retrospect but it's still annoying that it's there. The plot still remains pretty good after the reveal, but it's not what could have been which was much more interesting.

# ? Jun 15, 2014 18:36 |

Maybe I'm just too genre aware or something, but for me it was trying so hard to make me think Kyousuke is Maou that I knew there was no way he would actually turn out to be.

There's just nothing good about it, as it's all based around building up a red herring whose only outcomes are a) stupid as gently caress and giving everything away from the beginning if it's not a RH, or b) completely loving pointless if it is due to how hard it tries and then dismisses it without further ado. Or I should rephrase that: trying to con the reader into thinking the author is incompetent and the narrative predictable is not a good literary trick. This is on the level of Ethan Mars blacking out and coming to standing in the middle of the street holding an origami figure.

I hope I can forget that there's a premise ruining twist by the time I start reading it.

I really wouldn't call it "premise ruining". It's not quite as neatly done as the one in Sharin no Kuni but it works as-is just fine. It ultimately leads into the final arc which a pretty good send off all things considered.

Same here, I was utterly convinced that Kyousuke was Maou the whole time, and I'm still going through chapter 5 but there has yet to be a solid explanation behind what happened during the important parts where he blacked out. There were a few hints I didn't read into until much, much later and for the first few lines of dialogue of the twist-reveal I thought it was one of those 'psychological moments' where Maou was seeing his inner voice (Kyousuke) in physical form.

In Kira*Kira I thought for sure they were going to lose the contest and make the main character have to uphold the original bet that the ladies of the band would go on dates with the jerk band or whatever. Anyway ten hours later and http://puu.sh/9wZqg/f7b3cbe05f.jpg immediately made that song by the pixies go into my head. Why does nobody think to first turn off the engine in movies/tv/whatever when this happens? At the very least you can turn the key off!

Well, I was half-and-half on it when playing it. Even when the assassination on Azai was happening I still wasn't sure and was just mostly confused. The problem I have with the twist is that there are plot holes, plain and simple. They tried too hard to pull that out of nowhere and ended up not being able to fill in all of the details. Those missing details don't really add to the mystery, they just make it feel cheap. Misgivings aside, I did enjoy it. I enjoy it when I honestly don't know what to expect, even if it doesn't always make sense.

Kira*kira : when the girl whose route you're on burns to death in a forced prostitution related murder/suicide gone wrong that's a bad end right? Why is there a chapter four after I collapse in her burnt out house during the storm cradling her dying stray cat? Why does this keep happening? Why won't it release me to the main menu so I can go back and practice more so this doesn't happen? Is this the "good" end? What even is happening?

Kirari has two endings but you can't get the other one until you clear the other two routes.

There were so many dialog choices. The last few VNs I had only had like four total. I thought I was going through all this because I said I didn't want to be in a band at first two days ago. I thought for a second one of her sisters was pretending to be her breaking into my shithole apartment but apparently I'm just haunted or have brain problems. I've been reading through this five years later hell as fast as possible waiting for the bad ending notice and credits.

From what I remember, first there's "general group" points, which you get by showing commitment to the band. Too few of those and the game ends about halfway through the common route. There's also bad endings for not getting onto a route, and one joke bad end when the MC's getting hit on by the dude. I think the rich girl also has a bad end, but Kirari and Chie I don't think have "bad" endings.

Kira doesn't really have two ends but two routes. Well, there's just a second branchpoint halfway through her route at the decisive moment. Neither route is the "good" or "bad" end of the two. I guess nobody warned you that Kira Kira gets pretty freaking dark out of nowhere? Spoiled just in case I guess.
