Yeah, it can get confusing but just take your time reading through the rules and stuff. If you're not bothered about getting the points and entering the separate competitions like basing, diorama, etc., just post a normal oath exactly like last year, and have fun painting. For anyone who took part last time, the only thing that's changed as far as oathing is adding the company that made the model.

I, krushgroove, oath I will paint these converted Imperial Guard models from GW!
I need more cultist models so I scrounged ebay for some crappy IG models, these are suprisingly OK, especially considering how quickly I plan to paint them.
these are converted but not by me - they just arrived in the mail today

Three of these are partially painted with black primer only - this is how they came out of the box!

(just a reminder, I'm not eligible for any prizes or in the running for anything in any way - I'm oathing to get my models painted just like everyone else!)

How will the company that made the model be factored in? Will the company that made the mini be making prizes for people who do the most of their stuff or are you looking for a diverse spread of minis or what? Because I'm thinking of oathing my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (with energy weapons) from Darkhorse Miniatures so I'm just curious why the manufacturer matters?

This is part of a new campaign by me to improve my painting skills. The plan is based of the fact that I bought a lot of models when I was a kind, but I painted them in horrible ways. Therefore, I shall be stripping them and repainting them.

Any spots of paint seen are just the remains of the previous coat in hard to reach places, like down where the shields are, and will be painted over.

We're working on getting the companies that make the models (such as GW, Reaper, Wyrd, etc.) to supply a modest prize for a random draw that anyone who paints something from them can enter (e.g., paint a PP model, get entered into a prize draw to win something from PP, and so on). If the companies don't respond I'm working on getting prizes in some other fashion, which is why I put a call out for goons to sponsor a prize - which gets them entered into a random draw for a gift certificate I'll provide. Granted, not all model lines can be catered for - we're taking what we get - but I'm working prizes for the 'big name' companies.

You could treat all the random old-school lines that don't fit anywhere else as one big one and have a prize for them collectively.

This is actually what I'd like to do, but there's the good possibility someone will complain that their RAFM mini's should have a RAFM prize or whatever (I honestly don't know if RAFM are still in business, just using the first old-school line that came to mind). But that's probably what we'll end up doing, we'll have a look at the spreadsheet and see what are the most popular lines after the first month or so. Then the issue is getting enough prizes to cover all the lines :) so far none of the companies are responding. So I'll be working with a couple of sponsors to hopefully provide something to cover the various big lines and hope some more goon donors feel generous enough.

e: before anyone tells me, I just Googled RAFM and whattya know, they are still around :) good to see

But anyway, hopefully this explains why there are so many competitions and prize draws. I think I've stepped in it with wanting to give away so many prizes! If it works out a lot of people will be getting a lot of different prizes :)

In addition to what krushgroove said, I think it'll be great to have statistics at the end of the year. We'll be able to use those when we contact sponsors; we can say things like "hey look, 18% of participants painted Privateer Press models last year... perhaps with a PP prize, we could increase visibility of your product lines in the contest." Or whatever. Having that data is also useful to track trends over time. And I just like data. mmmmm. Data.

He's not really converted, just a more imposing backpack and a Night Lords back banner from an old skeleton shield. Not sure what fevered part of my imagination the curved, skeletal banner pole came from, but it seems to work, and might help protect those ridiculously fragile horns from damage on the tabletop. I like to think it's prehensile, and snakes around as he strikes a pose.

Detektuv's Journal 1: There are a lot of soldiers here, and I'm going to be assembly lining them. Which means keeping them in line. This is a photo from last night, after priming. I managed to clip the sprue connected to the head. This should minimize touch-ups later.

It's cheap plastic, and the mold lines fray if you trim them. I think at this scale it's a thing you just deal with? Who can say.

For Parts List I washed the sprues with dishsoap, and primed with Rustoleum Camoflague spray (sand colored).

(I realize Parts List gets posted when complete, but I'm going to have a hard time keeping track if I wait.)

If it's soft plastic you actually have to shave the mold lines with a sharp blade. It may be worth it on long, flat/visible parts (still, gently caress shaving 300+ models :suicide:)
