The more I read about Rifts, the more I'm convinced it's what you'd get if you took all the drawings I did in middle school of mechs and space marine dudes blowing each other up, gave it more budget/proper artists, gave it a more complicated plot with about the same amount of sense, and gave it game mechanics with ludicrous power levels.  I don't think I was ever metal enough to play Rifts back in the day.
