First off, Hayami Raienji.

Tin Tim posted:

"Did you find Hayami's character..."

- Being lonely?

FLARE: In some ways, her childhood was a very sad one. Not to mention she lost both parents and all of their time together at a young age. But she managed to pull off just fine. Thanks to her strong will to survive while keeping her own instinct sharp.

- Strong willed?

FLARE: Because of her harsh childhood, she constantly strive to beat the odds and live strongly.

---------------

The whole bit about the "lost both parents" is just in her perspective; when she joined the White Shinobi she thought that her real parents were dead, and that revenge was her first reason for joining. Hayami is slightly older than Fina because Catyss was revealed to have been pregnant at the end of the first game.

Not much to say that wasn't already said; her backstory was covered well by FLARE.

---------------

Now, for Latyss Grynwind.

- Very lonely.

FLARE: She doesn't talk too much which probably reflects the kind of circumstances she had to endure during her youth. But she won't be lonely later of her life. Because she got family and frieds who really cares for her.

- Very gentle

FLARE: Basically she is very gentle and delicate person. But once her family and friends are in great peril, you will witness her true color!

---------------

First off, thanks to those that let me know who exactly she was talking about; I never heard of Record of Lodoss War, to be honest. Next, that little bit was cringeworthy to notate. Latyss' ending was my first ending and I couldn't believe I found so many typos in her ending that it took me out of it a bit.

Latyss has no connection to the cast in the first game. Even Mariel and Romellia had some connection to people in the war, even if they were NPCs. Latyss is the only character that doesn't.

Supposedly, FLARE really wanted to talk about Latyss more, since there were some stories floating around that are reported to be made by her. If those stories are to believed, Latyss opening up to Ryle like she did in her ending is tantamount to showing herself bathing in the elven culture. To Elves, the mind is as important as the body, and telling your mental secrets is forbidden. In fact, the ability to have personas for different situations is a sign of maturity. The confrontation between Latyss and Dierro was actually a showdown of two of the most immature persons in the village, according to Latyss herself. Dierro for being able to be straightforward in his abuse of power and telling things as he saw them, and Latyss for letting her inner thoughts boil over to her speech in her anger. She mentions that she would have been attracted to him due to this if it wasn't for her father being human and Orubia's influence.

In another story, Orubia has a talk with Latyss about their feelings toward Ryle, and when Orubia gives up due to Latyss' stronger feelings, Latyss nearly gives up her love for Ryle in response due to what she felt was a weakening of her friendship with Orubia, or as she put it, "barging into your life and taking what meant the most to you". It was Orubia that said otherwise, saying that there was a lot more to learn about life outside being an elf, and being in love was the happiest pain both of them would ever feel. It wasn't that someone won and someone lost, Orubia said, but that "all that matters is the bond". Her bond would be with them both, and is the real reason why Orubia could treat Latyss like a sister. The story ends with Lesinna listening into their conversation, happy that there was much more to learn from humans.

---------------

Finally, Mariel Shells.

Tin Tim posted:

"So how did you feel about her?"

- Felt sorry for her.

FLARE: Yes, she went thru so many unhappy things in her life. But thanks to your help she's with Ryle now. Wonder how she would unfold the rest of her life?

- Truly happy with her life.

FLARE: Because she is with someone she cares the most. To her, that's more important than anything in this world. Wise girl indeed.

---------------

I don't think there's much to talk about with Mariel, so let's go with her dad. Gazel Shells is an NPC you can find when you play as Rain, trying to find a disguised Zeskar to give him a message. This was really buggy so in order to make sure you had the right person you really had to talk to everyone. Everyone got a name, but I guess Gazel stood out since he was the only one with a gun. Everyone else had swords or spears. When you talk to him, an enemy approaches on the bridge, and he OHKOs it before talking to you. It's rather amusing to repeat this multiple times, but since this area is laggy and buggy, you would usually just skip doing it more than once.

I swear, though, that the English translation of his name was Gazelle, not Gazel.

Making a character say "Ale" from time to time is not a French accent. It isn't even written or used right in any way :argh:

That in particular was rm2kfanboy, maybe he was aiming to give her a French accent, somewhat? FLARE says here 'she was originally intended to be an older-sister type, but she just ended up being the butt of all the jokes'. He also cut out some specifics about her colour-blindness, which to be fair weren't particularly relevant, but yeah, apparently it's real.

Guess what? Apparently, my computer is fine, and the culprit was the new and crappy power supply that my formerly trusted PC shop installed. I'm now typing from my old machine, with a new PSU that I got myself, and everything seems fine! I'm still a tiny bit worried because my HDD is kinda loud. But then again, my SMART values are fine and maybe I just screwed it in too tight. Well, the gist is that I'm going to update again :v:

Orubia's Ending

As always, Ryle goes through the waking-up process, but this time it's a little more dramatic.

Orubia is fine though, and it's just Anime drama :v:

Right, on to the battle.

This is her multi hit attack. And after buffing, it beats her other one by like a 1000 points in max damage.

And here is her single hit attack. But as said, it lags behind a bit.

Doing this fight with Orubia is a little awkward. Like, you already have a healbot on the field with Fina, but having Orubia too allows you to clear off effects much faster and also generally saves everyone from dying. But since Orubia also isn't too tough herself, she had to pitch in more than I liked. And during these turns your damage output falls hard, since Fina can't damage CHAOS herself. So in all, it's a slow but steady race.

"6 months have passed since the last battle... We received a reward from both Factoria and Meldia. And I gave my share to Orubia. It was her long time dream to run an orphanage, but her reward alone wasn't enough."

Ahw, that's mighty kind of Ryle!

"Luckily we had enough gold to cover all the expenses."

"Yes, one of my dreams finally became true."

"you always wanted to build a large childcare center for orphans and those in need."

"Mm! *nod* Factoria will support us with gold and food every month, now we can focus more on education!"

"You have been planning ahead~"

"But we need a safe environment for better care of the children."

"Yeah, you are right."

"And I can practice taking care of children through my work, so that I am more prepared for my own..."

"Eh? You have been going out with someone?"

"Ah!"

"...."

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

Oh cool, we're back to Ryle not getting things :downs:

"Umm...maybe I got one or maybe not~"

"What??"

"Hah...~ *sigh*"

"??"

"As usual...Dear Ryle is Dear Ryle after all~"

"Hey! What did I say?"

"I won't tell someone who is so insensitive!"

"What?"

"...."

"Hey, you didn't have to get angry like that."

"......"

"....~"

"......."

"What!? If you got something to say, SAY it!"

"!!"

"......*trembling a little*"

"Eek!"

"Woo...~ *sniff*"

"Noooo! Not the crying!!"

"How could you! You didn't have to be that mean~"

"Now I'm the one to blame!?"

"We...We have been together for all this time, but you didn't even notice it!"

"Notice what?"

"...We already made the promise 10 years ago! And I never forgot it!!"

"A promise 10 years ago...?"

"So you have forgotten already. Dear Ryle..."

"!? W-Wait! 10 years ago...you mean!!"

"....."

"I remember it now! I...during that time..."

"Really?"

"(Wait a sec! But that was~)"

"....."

"(Ah!? She is blushing! Then this must be it! That means! I will look after her for the rest of my life!!)"

"(Ryle, way to go pal~ Making a promise like that!)"

"Then...let me hear it...What we promised back then."

".......~ Do I really have to say it?"

"You HAVE TO!!"

"I promised you to help with your mage academy exams!!"

Classic Ryle :v:

"DEAR Ryle-!!"

"Yikes~"

"......"

"Fine don't say it...I know it's only me insisting on it..."

"!?"

"I mean it was 10 years ago. We didn't know anything back then."

"Well... I'll take care of the rest. Dear Ryle, you can go now."

Come on, Ryle. Don't gently caress this up :(

Ah, there we go!

"........"

"You can tell whether I'm saying this for real or just joking around!"

"But you also knew that I was asking you seriously back there, didn't you?"

"But you also knew that I won't leave just like this."

"I didn't want any of your sympathy, so I had to do that..."

"If that promise was so important to you, why would you just simply toss it away!?"

"!!"

"I don't think you can. After having kept it in your heart for 10 years!!"

"I know!! I know that... But even if I wanted it so bad, if you are not willing...!"

"Orubia...."

"If both of us are not happy with the promise, then it's meaningless to keep it..."

"But I...want to keep the promise."

"Ah!?"

"Now I'm saying it for real."

"For...ever?"

"Ah!"

"So you are not forcing yourself...to say this?"

"NO! I'm saying it because I want to!!"

"Can I trust...you this time?"

"Of course you can!"

"Mm!! *nod with tearful smile*"

"Ack!! Wait! Orubia! Let go of me!!"

"No I won't~"

"You are choking ME!! Ack! I'm gonna die~"

:3:

"From the next day on, we worked very hard running the care center. I do the heavy labor part, and she does the homemaking. She won't go easy on childcare! She is so persistent about it!...a new side of her. She's like a holy mother to the children and not so benevolent to me when I make mistakes~ Sometimes Preshes comes to play with the other kids. And fitting in so well...She's still a child I guess~ But it isn't so bad. Well, in fact not all. The peace is only temporary, so we better cherish the moment while it lasts..."

lmfao at that kid's retard mouth, how does that even happen :cawg:

"Dear Ryle! Come here quick! Look at her, she just looks like Sis Caris~"

"Oh yeah...those eyes!"

"...?"

"Maybe we should raise her like Sis Caris?"

"Absolutely NOT! That'll ruin her future~"

"Tomorrow I'm gonna call her and ask her to take care of you~"

"NOOOO!!"

"!! Woo! Waaaa!! Ehhhhhhhng~"

"Oh sorry dear~ He scared you right? Don't cry. You are a good girl~"

"Dear Ryle!! Turn right. And make a left!! Then keep stepping forward and leave!!!"

"I'm not in the military!! *follows the order and is already gone*"

"Yes you are~ Good girl~ Now now, don't cry....."

And that's it for Orubia's ending. I don't have much to say about it, because it's pretty much what I expected from her. Not really the whole orphanage thing, but everything else was definitely on par for her character in the game.

Well, on to the talk with Flare.

"At first, I made her a priestess, but later I had to change to a mage who currently wants to become a priestess. So she's a priestess in training~ She has fewer face pics, and I had to restart drawing many times. Her image just didn't come out easily~ And she has one hidden move, so if you didn't find it, here is the hint! Mountain, bring Hayami along."

I think we missed that hidden move, because I don't recall any mountain with Orubia or Hayami. There was one with the other girls, but iirc our party was fixed for that one

"Orubia's mother is a mysterious lady with dark hair. Her name is Tia. Her parents met at the open market. Her father Zamus, was a delivery merchant and he worked with Fina's dad Rain Delstar. Orubia was born in Lavas Ville, she was 5 when she first met Ryle :), and Latyss became her neighbor when she was 8 years old. She is quite shy, but she made lots of friends because of her pure heart. Even Latyss changed her stereotypes on humans because of Orubia. She hangs around with Ryle all the time. She tends to lean on him like a younger sister although they are the same age. So what did you feel about her?"

It's the obvious answer, I think.

"Like in the ending, she loves to play with children. And that's the main reason she wants to become a priestess after graduating from mage school. I hope you found her interesting enough that it was worth to play and see her ending!"

Meh

Lucitta's Ending

Contrary to the other endings, Lucitta is actually not knocked out and responds right away. She's more powerful than a human after all.

Ryle does his usual litany about having to help Fina even if it means certain death, and Lucitta is of course not that fond of the idea.

This leads into one of Ryle's deep moral discussions about how Mahzoks are strong on their own, while humans need to work together. Lucitta has problems grasping that, so Ryle comes up with a very good metaphor.

You're so deep senpai :allears:

But Lucitta quickly finds the hole in that logic.

Ryle then explains that Fina uses the power of the Dragon Arms and her friends to be as strong as she is, and after a bit more babbling, the lesson comes full circle.

Yes, even the Mahzoks can't exist on their own, and everyone should work together and be friends forever!

I'm including these bits because Lucitta not knowing much about humans is a big part of her ending and character. You'll see it later, but I think it's neat.

Also Lucitta's is pretty good at tip toeing the line between good and evil. Like, she's our pal, but also a demon that feeds from negative emotions so she'll never be all goody two shoes. I prefer that to the trope of the redeemed evil guy that now likes flowers and bunnies.

Right on to the fight!

This is her single hit move.

And this is her multi hit move.

Which one is better isn't a simple answer this time. Like, the multi attack can potentially score more damage, but it's also variable and sometimes lacks behind the other move. So really, you're fine with either move, but I stuck to the single hit for the consistency. Lucitta is also a very good pick for this fight! She and Ryle can easily dish out 15k damage per turn if they're buffed and can just smash away. She can also tank a Dragon Break, and has some utility buffs and a heal for emergencies.

It's not a cakewalk though. Like, when CHAOS decides to spam AOE and then hits you with a Dragon Break at the wrong time, Lucitta will still go down. But it's really hard to beat her damage output, and since this fight is so dreadfully long, high damage wins me over every day.

Oh, Lucitta also has a reaction to CHAOS pulling out his ultra move.

"I left Lavas along with Lucitta soon after the war had ended. It was too early for the people to accept her being a Mahzok...especially when they still remember the horror from 20 years ago. And so she needs to learn to blend in this world from the beginning."

Nice detail that her wings are gone by this point. Otherwise the "totally a human" ruse wouldn't work that well :v:

"Hey, what's the big hold up?"

"Master~ Why do I have to walk?"

"What are you talking about!? Nobody can fly like you around here."

"Sacred Dragon can!"

"Fina can no longer fly since she sealed the Arms again."

"Then just tell the others that I can fly due to special magic casted on me! Right?"

"But as soon as they see your wings, they know you're a Mahzok!"

"But my feet hurt! And my legs are sore after walking so long~ I'm so tired~ Hungry too~ I wanna get some sleep~ Wait a sec, are we on the right road? What's a ".com"?"

To be fair, this new life is quite the change for Lucitta. And when you've been flying your whole life, your leg muscles must be underdeveloped something fierce. Never skip leg day at the gym, folks!

"Hey master, I don't see any humans around here. Can't I fly just a little bit?"

"Of course you can't!"

"Humph! Control freak~"

"But you must follow the rules around here! If you don't want to get caught."

"Then I'll kill them instantly and no one would even notice..."

"Once you do that, then people begin to question your motive for being here and they will hunt you down! Don't forget. Your power is only half as it was in the Astral Realm."

Ah yes, people will question her motives when she indiscriminately kills a bunch of them. That's obviously the only problem in that scenario :v:

"Why do you think I put so much effort into trying to fit you in among humans?"

"!?"

"Because you are my friend. And you already have seen how our friendship enabled us to beat CHAOS."

"..."

"We'll go just a little bit more. After that I'll warp us home."

"Master!?"

"I want you to be serious about doing this."

"But we can't hide forever! I'm a Mahzok after all..."

"It doesn't matter!"

"Eh?"

"You are my friend. And I'm only inviting my pal to my hometown. That's all."

"Master..."

"Someday humans and Mahzoks will need each other no matter how big our differences are. Just like when we first met and fought side by side."

"What are you talking about!? I'm only here because of the contract!"

"The contract? Since when did I impose you to work under a contract? For what purpose?"

"!! But then why are you...?"

"I've been telling you since a while ago. Because we are friends! And you were interested in humans. Right? That's why you tagged along."

"..."

"I'll tell you more along the way. So just stick with me! I want you to live together with me."

"..."

And this is pretty cute. After that talk, Lucitta stops complaining and starts to walk.

She takes little baby-steps, and has to pause a couple of times, but she's doing it! This seriously made me go :3:

"Master..."

"You did well...And that's it for today."

"We only walked this far...Yet I feel like I accomplished so much."

"That's how you learn."

"...I like it."

I like that it's left open if Ryle and Lucitta become a real couple, or if Lucitta is just Ryle's pet project for cross-species diplomacy.

"At first, I was worried about her well-being. Mahzoks in general are not good with any forms of positive energy like happiness and joy. But Lucitta had no problem at all. And now she's living with me very normally. Negative emotional energy is still her primary food source, but sometimes she enjoys our food too. I wonder how the negative energy would taste like? Occasionally she goes back to the Astral Realm to look for any potential threats, but the Mahzoks there have been very quiet lately. She looks very much like a human girl now. Who would think she's actually a Mahzok!? I'm hoping that someday she will become a bridge between two different worlds."

Oh my, that sure is an anime :eyepop:

"Come on Master~ You're getting behind!"

"Of course! I've been carrying all these bags for hours~"

"Huh~ But that's only one bag!"

"All the daily supplies for the two of us are in there!"

"Oh well~ You know that I walk funny if I carry that, and that might blow my cover!"

"How convenient~"

"Now stop talking and hurry up! I want to sleep in beds tonight master!"

"Ack~"

"With her, we got a total of 7 endings! Which I regretted later. I mean the extra work I had to put in just for her *grabbing hair* Thanks to her, I was able to come up with the victory point system which many players liked so I guess I let her stay in the game...(more work GOD~) Like all other Mahzoks, she needs to sacrifice most of her power in order to materialize in this world. Lucitta became curious about humans when she ventured into their world after she got bored in the Astral Realm. Because Mahzoks rarely work in a cooperative fashion like humans do since they are way more powerful individually. Maybe this triggered her interest in humans and made her later join Ryle? She wanted to explore more about humans with someone who she thinks can handle her power, so Lucitta joined the victory points quest."

"So what did you feel about her?"

"Her ideals and even her basic eating habits are very different from any race in this world. So her task to fit into human society is very challenging indeed. But it is the same for us in the real world."

Don't tell her that I cheated :ssh:

Well, that's it for Lucitta's ending. I like her character, and wouldn't have minded to see more of her in the game, but oh well! I think her ending is also neat. Nothing too special, but with the right amount of cute and zero annoyances.

Oh hey, that also means that there is only one ending left! Wohoo I can lay this thread to rest soon! Sound the party horns!....Wait...the last ending is Fina's....gently caress

The end boss resists all elements. In fact, it only does 1 damage at most. The moves that deal damage to CHAOS are actually triggered events and thus skip the element. It's an interesting way of dealing with the boss' gimmick.

Fina's Ending

Oh boy, is this finally the last drat update for this thread? Why yes, it most certainly is :woop:

Fina is currently fighting CHAOS, but somehow she still has a ghostly projection here and we can chat to her because of reasons. Now, of course Ryle does his whole shtick about being a reckless hero again, but this time he has a very good explanation for it.

:black101:

Okay, on the fight.

Fina actually gets moves too, and why she couldn't use them in the other fights shall remain a mystery forever. Both are multi hit attacks, but this one is highly variable in its damage output so I prefer the other one.

"This move shall open the ways of our future!!"

"Forces of the universe, listen to my command!! All beings shall be protected by your laws and powers!"

As said, the other move is a lot more variable in its damage output, so this one is my winner.

Overall, the fight with just Fina and Ryle is a lot less bad than I expected it to be. Both are very hardy characters, and once your buffs are up, you can consistently deal like 15k damage and only have to keep everyone healthy and re-buff at times. In a way, not having a third member is a plus because it means less time spent on resurrecting the more squishy ones. However, this fight still isn't a cakewalk! I got trapped in one of CHAOS' freeze loops for a while and was really close to death when I got out of it. Also, thenightsshadow told us that there is a weird bug in the CHAOS code which can make you just lose the fight.

Guess who found that bug :argh:

Sure enough, he pulled out his ultra move, and instead of the speech event triggering, he just said "BEGONE HUMANS" and I was dead. Figures that Fina's end is the one that I have to play twice.

"Fina and I went back to Dracoheim together after the final battle with CHAOS. Fina helped me to go through the temple's barrier. Since only the dragons and those who posses the Dragon Gene are allowed to enter the place. And she was unusually quiet after we entered."

"....."

"I know it would be very hard for you to let go of your powers. But the world is at peace now."

"...I'm fully aware of that."

"Or do you still want the fame and glory of being the Sacred Dragon?"

"...."

"I'm sure you can become the Sacred Dragon any time you want. So don't worry."

"...."

"(I thought she would be the one who understands the most about the risk and danger of such a big power.)"

"Somehow I feel...that we are very selfish and unfair."

Same

"We finally were able to defeat CHAOS. Because we fought to the end with all we got. And thanks to my Cosmos Eternal. But all of that wouldn't have been possible if I couldn't have become the Sacred Dragon..."

"What are you trying to say?"

"Have you already forgotten the ones who contributed the most to saving our world?"

"...."

"All thanks to these Dragon Arms."

"Fina..."

Hey, remember how these relics totally have a soul and stuff? Yeah? Well guess what Fina's end is mostly about!

"The Arms have been waiting here in order to lend each Sacred Dragon their powers. And they have been doing this for thousands of years on behalf of our well-being. But now we want to seal them back up just because they are no longer of use for us."

"...."

"The Dragon Arms have their own will like we do."

"Will?"

"I remember when I tried to activate them at this place. I was SO frustrated about them not responding at all."

"Because I too, thought the Arms were merely the tools for my transformation. Then the Dragonlord advised me not to treat them like objects, but rather ask them for help."

"Finally they answered my calls. I was so glad that they accepted me as their own friends."

"...."

"After going through all the hardship together, now we want to toss them back into boxes? SO selfish!!"

"They got feelings too, but they had to be locked up for all these years alone. Whenever they are out, the world is always in conflicts and disarray. So what would be their happiness in being what they are now? They always save us from certain doom, but we never did anything for them...Even after I have become the Sacred Dragon, I still don't know what to do about it."

"You're right... Now it's our turn to do them a favor. First of all, we can visit them from time to time. We know they'll be here for sure."

"But visiting alone won't do much."

"That is what we'll think about from today! We'll have the solution someday."

"Really...?"

"Of course, answers are always out there! All you need is to keep looking!"

"...Ok"

In between all the retardation, I want to point out this extra retarded bit in the writing. Fina will address the Arms as "Guys" and then the brackets get included every single time. This happened in other parts of the game too, but I think I cut it out. I've seen a lot of bad writing in this game, but this somehow annoyed me the most :argh:

Time for some glows and sparkles while Fina returns the Arms.

"....."

"..."

"..... Let's go Ryle. We better leave the temple before the barrier is turned back on."

"Huh?"

"The voice!"

"Don't forget. We are always with you in your heart."

"You are...! You are the guys! Right?"

"Didn't you know that we have been together not just during this war?"

"I don't understand!"

"!? Fina, behind you!"

"Huh?"

Fina's old sword, jfyi.

"So do you know now?"

"Oh...so we've been together since I was little!"

"Don't be so sad. We are with you all the time along with our world."

"Mm... *nod* I'll take good care of this sword. And we'll pass it down to our next generation!"

"We'll look forward to that day's coming."

"Alrighty! Let's go Rune Disaster-!!"

No idea why that is still included at this point

"Maybe, I went too far on that future promise part."

"Waa?"

"That I have to pass it down to the next generation part!"

"Is it really difficult?"

"You really haven't done a thought about your own future, have you~"

"Anyway, let's go home! Mom's waiting for us!"

"Ah? Ok... (I haven't thought about my own...?)"

"And that's how we saved our world from total destruction. As I think back about what all happened in our adventure, I noticed that we were very lucky. Not just Fina joining our party, but rather many things in this universe helped us out in a great deal. Compared to these entities, we humans are truly weak life forms. And I also felt that defeating CHAOS by gathering our puny powers in one, was quite miraculous. I also realized the importance of passing down such precious knowledge to my next generation."

Huh, that's one of the tamer Animes the game has given us. But then again, FLARE went really far to let us know that Fina doesn't have much to show so it's not a huge surprise.

"Hey Ryle!"

"Ah?"

"Finally my new recipe is done! Try this one!"

"You sure it won't be the same as last time?"

"I told you that's because the vendor forgot to cut the poisonous part out."

"Why don't you try it first, huh? I almost saw the "gates" last time!"

"I did, so just trust me this time. I didn't put any weird ingredients in this dish."

"Fine.*eating*"

"Oh! DELICIOUS-!!"

"Ahem! I didn't get my chef license for nothing you know!"

"But you put the bell pepper in it again~ You know I hate the peppers..."

"Oh come on. I put in very little! Can't you tell?"

"I know. Just making me eat those peppers alone is incredible enough already! You're good."

"Ehhehe~ So tell me Ryle...How many children do you want?"

"Pooooh~"

"Oh~ Why did you throw up like that?"

"How can I eat while listening to "that" all of a sudden?*cough*"

"What's so wrong about it!? I'm a woman you know!"

"But you've gone too far! We didn't even get married yet!"

"I mean why not now? Ryle, you BETTER start to think about our future from now on!"

"You two are the WORST couple I've ever seen~"

And that's it for Fina's ending! Tbh, it was a lot less awful than I expected. The whole part about the feelings of the Dragon Arms was dumb as hell, but hey, could have been worse!

"In fact, I made the prequel of this game before. And it's somewhere in my room. It was called "DRAGON VALKYRIE"-! It's about the previous Sacred Dragon Flare and her friends, during the "Demonic War"! And I made it with RPG Maker 3 for the Playstation 1! So you got all these characters: Flare Delstar, Rain, Zestrum, Meldyss, when they were young adventurers like Ryle is now. And I made Flare so pathetic back then! However she already had Divine Impact in the beginning of the game..~ Flare Delstar, Princess Meldyss, and the Fester sisters(Romellia's mom and aunt), went on the mission to stop the Gaiares invasion of East Ernest. Most of the other kingdoms back then did not realize the threat of the Mahzoks, so the Gaiares Empire became the first enemy they faced. But Gaiares did this on purpose to force them to unite their troops and get ready for the Mahzoks. Of course Flare and the others had no idea about this at first. They only thought that stopping Gaiares would end the war. After she arrived at Gaiares, the Mahzoks finally surfaced. And there she also found out about the Sacred Dragon. Flare got the Dragon Gene from Centinel who was the candidate for the next sacred Dragon, and it was done by her sword Rune Disaster. And then she gathered the Arms and became the Sacred...You know the rest of the story after that."

It's kinda neat that FLARE talks about her first game. I mean, some of those names may not ring a bell anymore, but we met almost all of them at some point in the game.

"It might sound very serious, but the game is full of jokes like this one. Including Flare's good old "hyper Sea Sick" and "Ghost Phobia"~Romellia's mom, Mimi and her younger sister Rolli, were famous bunny girls back then with huge you know what I mean, and it agitated Flare a lot~"

Yes, I can totally see that all those jokes are so extremely good that you just had to recycle them for the second game

"About Fina, I guess you already know by now that her parents are Rain and Flare. Because of her heroic background, people treated her with high expectations as the daughter of a savior since her childhood. So you can see she was under quite a lot of pressure, just imagine that the others expect you to be perfect at everything! And she had a couple of bad memories because her status made her very isolated and lonely. She hated the title of "Savior's daughter" so much, that she wanted to become a chef instead. I guess it was her own way of revolting. Then she lost her father Rain after she turned 15. And her father's death might have caused Fina to become a Valkyrie after all. So when she first met with Ryle and the others, she tried very hard not to be compared so much with her mother in terms of abilities and so on...By the way, she's at the same age as Caris, 17. But her fighting abilities are awesome already, unlike the issues of her flat chest~"

You just had to get that last one in, didn't you? :argh:

"So what impression did she give you?"

Again there is no option for "retarded", so I go with this one I guess.

"Probably so because of her close tie between the Sacred Dragon and the world's constant need of fighting against the threat of CHAOS. I enjoyed a lot of creating this character, maybe due to her humorous part."

Yeah, keep telling yourself that it's "humorous". But then again, maybe all of the jokes in this game actually work if you're still a teen...

...because FLARE wasn't much older herself when she wrote them. This screen comes from one of the little joke bits that get added to each ending btw, but I never felt the need to include them because some repeat and you all have seen FLARE's humor so gently caress it!

:siren: And that's it! It's over! Thread is done! :siren:

Get out!

Okay, I suppose I should write some form of a closing statement. First off, thanks y'all for reading and posting! Half of the fun of Lps is the things the forum contributes. Double thanks to those who stuck around to the very end, because it was a long road and you're probably as worn out as I am. And tripple double extra thanks to Polsy and thenightsshadow for all the cool info and contributions, vilkacis for the RPG maker hax, and Taciturn Tactician for the fan art! All that made me real happy! There were more than a few times where I wanted to kill this thread because it went on longer than I would have thought. And tbh, the fun curve of this weird game kinda took a nose dive when we moved into the endgame. But I always felt bad when my mouse hovered over that "close thread" button and told myself that's it's just a few updates left. Just go on a bit further, you almost made it. Don't let the Anime win! And here we are :v:

I hope y'all had some fun on the road, and I luckily did not turn into an alcoholic despite drinking more than a few shots while writing some of the updates. I'll probably never do another game with so many words though. Becomes a serious drain in the long run. But whatever, it wasn't all bad and I'm happy that we got to the very end of this. If you like to follow my stuff, then I can tell you that I currently have another thread up, that's about something entirely different. I'll also get back to a VLP in the future, but that will take a few more months at least.

Well, I think that's all!

I've started to dabble with RPGmaker so games of this scale are very impressive to me, anime shenanigans and all. I think the problem with this is that Flare isn't very good with making battles and especially bosses. So he tries to compensate by throwing plot into things, or failing that, common anime hijinx. It's an impressive game, but it really needs an editor.

Sessha thanks you for your struggles, Tin Tim. Domo arigatou (thank you very much)!.

Well, this certainly was a thing. Thank you Tin Tim, for going through this and showing us this...unique...game.

See you in the next thread!

Good job on the LP Tim. It didn't get quite as terrible as I thought but it was still entertaining.

Huh. Seemed like kind of a missed opportunity.

I mean, amazing intelligent superweapons brought into the modern world. What would they have to say? What would they think of what has changed?

Would they give Fina advice on her wedding night? Heyo!

Well, that was... a thing. I guess I'm impressed the creator had enough willpower to actually finish this entire thing and write up a whole dating sim? I'm even more impressed you sat all the way through it though.

Best ending was probably Lucitta's, oddly enough.

Yeah, thanks for perservering and letting us see what all the options were. Well, it was certainly an experience, but it was interesting looking stuff up and seeing what changed.

I kinda fell behind on this and missed the whole... final dungeon and climactic battles and all, but fortunately managed to catch up just in time. Thanks for the thread and for not letting the anime win - it was fun seeing this game again, even if I'm not quite as impressed with it now as I was the first time. I don't remember that much from back then (it was many years ago) but I definitely remember seeing Lucitta's ending.

I don't envy you having to go through the last parts multiple times, but...

Congratulations, your anime collection rate is 100%!

But seriously, thanks for showing this game off. It was a weird journey for sure.

Thanks for this! I got a lot of STRANGE nostalgia from this Let's Play. Can you believe I actually enjoyed this game's plot when I was 14? :v: Although, the revelation that Flare was about the same age herself when she made this does clear up a lot of things.

Yeah, same. Like, I thought this game was good and funny when I was young and dumb, and that's maybe why. I still think the level of effort deserves respect, but looking at the game as a grown up is a different story.

Yeah! It's pretty weird that the relics just decided to talk at the very end. It could have been an interesting touch to have them yak at Fina during the endgame or whatever, and to actually make them a character. But welp.

Anyway, I think this thread has run its course so I'll close it and will send Baldurk a mail soonish. This has to be preserved for our children, you know :v:
