Modern dent corn comes from a plant the Natives called Maize that they domesticated and engineered from a strain of grass.

I can't speak for Giblet, but I think when most people talk about "genetically engineered" organisms they mean something that can't happen naturally, like adding the ability to secrete artificial pesticide, or putting eel DNA in your salmon. Technically you're right though, anything humans tamper with is "engineered."
