Whaaaaaaaaaaat that's great news. It's definitely the most..adaptable..of his comics. The first Blame OVA had zero money and the second CG one just really didn't do it for me at all so I'll be really interested in who they get to work on it.

Goddamn all those chapters ruled. Seriously the best sci-fi comic out there right now. Whole bunch of callbacks this volume too, maybe Sidonia wrote a sequel to Biomega that gave Higarde a happy ending. Tsugumi continues to own. Also FFFFFFFFUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK the return of the GBE! 420 shoot through moons err'day. drat Nihei has come a long way drawing humans. Izana's mortified face in chapter 48 was amazing. Now the endless wait for more.

Tsugumi's poo poo-eating grin after taking that pilot on a joyride was great. Back to earth for a moment did anyone ever translate that missing chunk of One Outs, or should I just watch the series?

I just realised why I like Izana and the others, as well as it just being nice to see intersexed characters who aren't just played for cheap laughs (hi Gargantia): It all goes back to Ochiai and the bottleneck; when the human race has been millimetres away from extinction you're going to put in safeguards to make sure you never come that close again. Clone-groups so that multiple copies of your kids can die and the genes survive, fluid genders that don't have to worry about being able to have kids no matter who they end up with. It makes great characters and also males total logical sense.

I'd have no trouble that beyond typical manga exaggeration there's a core of truth down there, if the Japanese medical system is anything like their school system, on top of just how the medical profession is in general. Also apparently Dorohedoro is finished and just not scanlated? We should totally make a thread if we ever get the rest. I'm re-reading it and just got to the part where Risu is meeting the rest of the Cross-Eyes in the 'abandoned' house, complete with dramatic darkened faces and shadows. Then it turns out it's because they can't afford electricity and the first thing they do is rush to get to the scrappaper merchant. Such a great comic.

Oh Snapalope posted:So I don't get Biomega's ending fully. The only part I didn't get is why was Mr.Badass Bear able to stop the second recreation, and why was his wish the one that got picked when the Earth got recreated the first time. Everything else I got a pretty good understanding...Well except the part where "Kozolov appeared on horse back in human form; as in was that just Eon Green's wishful thinking? Honestly don't think about it too hard, Biomega didn't make much sense near the end and I suspect was cancelled. Sidonia is way better, even though it doesn't have motorcycles (yet).

Some new chapters of Dorohedoro are out, I forget whether it's kosher to link or not so I won't risk it. Goddamn I want an anime series of this just to see them animate a bunch of severed heads talking and BBQing like it ain't no thing.

I think maybe the author of Wolfsmund was playing a long game and the first few creepy volumes were setups for the current ones where the smug rear end in a top hat antagonist is about to get his dumb face pushed in.

He did a Mazinger Z manga too which has (had?) more or less the same problems, which is a drat shame since his art is great.

It doesn't help that the current antagonist is just mustache-twirlingly evil (for a certain value of evil). The series has always been hyper-dramatized but the dude is just utterly unconvincing and is only a threat due to Ban's sudden regression.

I read a few chapters of Brynhildr and something about it was really, really off. Then I looked at the notes and saw it was by the guy who did Elfen Lied and just went "oh right, of course" and dropped that poo poo instantly.

The only one I remember from the top of my head was he did a lot of concept designs for Zeta that were tossed out because they didn't fit the style of the Gundam universe, which is entirely fair because the dude does a lot of very elaborate and super robot-y designs and UC Gundam was a lot more functional and realistic back then, and went a little nuts about it. /m/ knows more but visit 4chan at your peril. I love that in the latest chapters of Dorohedoro they do the usual "You can't meet yourself in the past or BAD THINGS MAY HAPPEN" setup and then pages later just go "naw gently caress that".

Well transitioning from porn to non-porn a fairly standard thing that happens (AIKI, Shokugeki no Soma, Hellsing I think?) so I guess doing it the other way around is only a little more skeezy,

By the way if anyone else is reading insane muscle-worshipping Baki series poo poo is about to get even crazier than unfreezing a Neanderthal dude for them to fight, because they're about to resurrect Miyamoto Mushashi by getting an old spirit medium to make his soul again, after re-creating his body from old bone marrow outta his skeleton.

Baki is kinda like Prison School et al; it is totally honest about what it's about and the author loving loves to make Nasu-style speeches mid-fight in totally grandiose language about muscles and how Real Men Fight and poo poo like that. I actually read the second series first (the one where due to synchronicity six serial killers all come to Japan looking for good fights, and Muhammed Ali and his son cameo, and Baki kidnaps the president of the US to go to prison to meet some giant jacked dude who lives like a king, and then Neanderthal man arrives, and etc) and I was fascinated. The art is janky as gently caress but it fits perfectly because the plot is all about the focus on the insane loving character's insane loving bodies and so is it. All the main guys are actual ubermensch sociopaths with no connection to or thoughts in common with anything resembling a real human being and it's perfectly fine and normal and easy to break into military bases to fight primeval man, or punch someone with your arm-stump after your hand gets cut off, or practice shadow-boxing with imaginary giant praying mantises for a fight with your dad. Everything is played absolutely straight. All these things happen. If you enjoy JoJo I heartily recommend it.

Yeah the first one isn't really translated but from what I inferred from part 2 is just a big tournament. Second one was the psychopaths, prison, Muhammed Ali and neanderthal man. Third one was all about him vs his amazing troll of a dad. Fourth one just started and so far is psychics and Musashi.

In the newest Keyman I'm pleasantry surprised we got a decent explanation for why Dr Necro looks like a girl and also actually gives the villain a decent motivation. A brutally goddamned heartless explanation too, Jesus. No wonder Frank hates beastmen and wants to get to the DHW so badly. Also Pete.

I'm trying to find an old comic, it's either by the same author as Lone Wolf and Cub or someone who drew kinda like him. II vaguely remember the story, it or a part of it was about a pair of married police, and another part was about a Samurai like in LWaC but not a disgraced one. It was really similar to LWaC but a hell of a lot less grim. Kinda vague I know but what am I thinking about?

No clue, alas. The to-buy links here are both for Japanese releases. More info is coming according to the scanlating group that's already laid claim to it but for now who knows. Possibly with Sidonia being a success there's a better chance at it coming over the pond.

Also both Nikaido and Noi are built like brick shithouses since one is a mechanic-slash-cook and the other is a mafia enforcer so it looks way less stupid than a waif-thin girl with balloons stapled to her. I wish Dorohedoro would end soon so I have an excuse to read it all from scratch.

There's another entry in the 'we're students who just crashed on this deserted island and now there are [things] killing us' genre. I already forgot the name of it. It's giant bugs this time and they inject PLEASURE PHEROMONES into you as they eat you, so all the women make That One Face when they get devoured. Did I miss an actual good comic based on this premise that came and went, giving rise to stuff like this and Cage of Eden? Was LOST big in Japan?
