I started a Chloroharb Mage this past weekend and have been having a blast with it, playing up to level 35 or so. Pyro in dungeons and even Chloro in dungeons has been a really fun experience too. One expansion in, and Rift is even better than it used to be.

I have the manual dexterity of a boulder, so the fewer buttons I have to press, the happier I am. Yeah, that's one of my few complaints - having a number of abilities that are all "Instant - deal XXX damage - cooldown 8 seconds" or something, with no other interesting effects.

I also transferred my mage, cleric, and rogue to Deepwood so when the game goes F2P I can play with fellow goons. There's like 9 different souls in the Mage calling, one of which is melee based. You can by all means play a ranged mage and be viable. From what I'm told, Pyro and Warlock are both great in raids.
