I plan on getting one whenever it gets a 3D Mario platformer, Mario Kart, or a Legend of Zelda. Hopefully the price will drop by then too.

Yes. The film industry proves this too, as many of the movies that sell a ton of tickets are about comic book heros that have been around forever, book adaptations, and sequels. Pacific Rim was pretty great but nobody saw it. I'm sure that next year's Godzilla film will do much better at the box office. I guess a nicer way of putting it is "consumers seem to prefer stuff they are familiar with than something new and unfamiliar."
