No one knows for sure when it will come out but the current back to school promotion runs through September 6th, so they probably won't release anything new before then.

I have a mini and gave my 3 to my gf, but I want a 5 because the RAM on the mini annoys me and I want a bigger screen again. I hope the new 5 is lighter than the 3/4 though, that thing is a beast compared to the mini.

First world problems...

What does everyone think of the chances of the new iPad having the fingerprint sensor?

Did they do in-store reservations for the iPad 4? I want to just use the apple store app at midnight on Thursday and go in at noon on Friday and pick up a 32gb air.

The article claims that the Air has only 1 GB of RAM, identical to iPad 4. My guess is rMini will also get 1 GB. If the article is true on that fact.

I'm really disappointed by this. On my current Mini I can't have more than 1 tab open in safari without the others having to refresh. Many apps have to reload when I switch between them, which can be annoying if you're copying links or just iMessaging someone. RAM is my biggest complaint about the Mini, and I don't want to keep having to deal with this on a new device that I just shelled out $500+tax to buy (more if you buy more memory or cellular).

The old Mini has half as much memory as the Air.

Yes, but it is still going to be an issue because as noted by the anandtech review, 64-bit apps use more memory, so really it's like 50% more RAM than the old mini, which frankly still seems unacceptable for a brand new top of the line device.

I'd recommend not buying it then.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to buy it. I'm just bitching about it because I really don't understand the decision Apple made.

Totally painless. Got a 32GB space gray with the blue smart cover. I may switch to the red in the store, we'll see.

I'm really liking just the smart cover. This iPad is easier to hold onto since it has more rounded edges, but I am considering buying a back cover just for the grippiness factor while I'm on the subway. My favorite back cover has always been the Poetic Thinshell (I loved it on the iPad mini), but I may wait a week to see what else comes out. There's a Speck back cover with a built-in magnet (so the smart cover stays attached to the back while you're using it), but it's not available yet.

In my experience Moshi things look great but fall apart. I've had great luck with the Poetic ThinShell, but I am seriously considering the Speck SmartShell due to the magnets on the back. I may just leave it without a back cover though, this iPad doesn't have the grip problems that the old ones did, IMO.

I don't like it because it makes you wait at startup while it phones home before taking you to your inbox. It also doesn't use swipe-to-delete gestures.

I think this is all because it is basically gmail.html wrapped in an exe instead of an actual native app.

In theory they should be making the loading page go away since iOS 7 introduced background app refresh. It's just a matter of time, hopefully. Unless like you said it's just their website in app form and they can't use the app refresh.

I think I almost got 5-6 hours of X-Com before I had to plug it in which is insane.

Xcom seems to still crash on my iPad air at least once or twice a day when I play it on the subway :|

I just got an air and i have a question about newsstand items auto downloading

I want it to auto download the paper as soon as its published, according to the newsstand app it is supposed to do this (its the evening standard for reference) - i have already told it to subscribe and have had the email from itunes telling me i am subscribed

Mainly because my ipad will be connected to wifi at work and then when i get on the train i was to be able to read the paper, however if i dont load the app in the daytime then it does not seem to be downloading the most recent one

Have you checked the settings for background app refresh? It should be in by default but just to make sure go to settings->general->background app refresh and make sure the box is checked.

I went from iPad 4 to the mini......Obviously it'd be much easier on a big iPad but the portability difference is very noticeable. If weight and size are not major concerns I'd say go with the Air.

The portability difference of iPad 4 to a mini is a lot bigger than an Air to mini, just keep that in mind. If you need a bigger screen, get a bigger screen.

So I have found myself using my iPad Air at work quite a bit lately. I'm considering a Logitech keyboard cover (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Ultr...+keyboard+cover) and am wondering if there are any better alternatives. I want it to just be a cover, not a case, as I prefer to use the smartcover when I am not at work. Anyone have any ideas?

Zagg cover, I have one and it is fantastic. Clips on very secure and comes off quickly. Sweet backlit keyboard with great responsive keys.

Used mine a few months now and love it.

That one looks pretty solid. It's $30 more expensive than the Logitech version, would you say it's worth the premium?

Yeah, I'm really impressed by the Apple Pencil. I ordered through Best Buy "ship to store" and it was ready for pickup late Friday. It is literally the only thing I've purchased from that store in 15 years after I swore to never set foot in one again. But apparently my tech-lust overrides my principles.

I had ordered it the Monday of that week. On the other hand I had placed an order with the Apple Store for over two weeks ago, and it still showed a shipping estimate of Dec 21 (I cancelled that one after I picked it up from BB).

It's hosed up world when Best Buy's retail supply chain is better than Apple's for an Apple product.

Don't want to derail the thread, but Best Buy has gotten a lot better since I made a similar promise to never set foot in one again back in 2008. They price match Costco and Amazon, you can get your new toy day-of, and they even have some sweet gimmicks like Best Buy Rewards (I get $10 coupons constantly) and Gamers Club Unlocked if you like vidya games. I don't own any BBY stock or anything, I just actually have had decent experiences there lately.
