Protocol7 posted:I think it's unlikely. There's a reason Apple is sticking to 1024x768 effective resolution nowadays. They don't want to go fragment the ecosystem like Android. Exactly. If there's going to be change in the size, it'll be horizontally to give a widescreen resolution, not a diagonal extension. The iPhone 5 jump to 16:9 is still having its effects on the app ecosystem nearly a year on, as did the Retina upgrade before it. I actually appreciate that; even with iOS 7 changing design, there's no serious unwarranted change in functionality or your muscle memory, whereas Android phones are too often bloated with manufacturer customization/bloatware (as evidence by my mother taking several days to acclimatise from a HTC Wildfire to a Galaxy S III; thank God she didn't go for the Galaxy Note).

To be honest, it's not just Apple Stores; most electronic stores are very reluctant to process returns, even in the UK under the Sale of Goods Act. That said, referring to the lawyers/customer service team is better than getting the floor staff to bullshit about supposed loopholes in the law.

Diabolik900 posted:That's how I read it. Yeah, the iPod line needs an update too. The Shuffle would probably be fine as-is, but the Nano needs a UI refresh and the Touch needs a 128GB model to replace the now-discontinued Classic. Apple TV additionally needs an upgrade to stay competitive against devices like the Chromecast. I would imagine the Mac refreshes to be in early 2015; there's almost no point in releasing new iMacs or even the Mac Mini with Broadwell expected by the end of the year.

Apparently there's Apple Pay code for iPad in 8.1 so people are speculating that the new iPads will have Touch ID (not beyond the realms of possibility) and NFC (really, guys? )

Supgaiz posted:Yeah, people seem to be forgetting that ApplePay works with in-app purchases as well, so of course iPads are getting support for it. Which is why it implies TouchID; the ApplePay code is for IAPs and for orders. Butt Soup Barnes posted:I don't see why NFC would be that far out there - isn't that kind of thing built in to the same chip that Bluetooth and wifi is? Also there are other uses for NFC aside from Apple pay. iOS 8's implementation of NFC is limited to Apple Pay.

CygnusTM posted:For now. Opening up NFC will probably be a iOS 9 thing. Like how Touch ID was limited to Apple for iOS 7 then opened up for iOS 8. NFC-enabled Passbook passes might make it into iOS 8.2 (if we're assuming iOS 8.1 is going to turn on the switches for Apple Pay). From the looks of it, Apple are probably wanting to release the new iPads and 8.1 side-by-side, then the Apple Watch, 8.2, and Photos for Mac side-by-side. What's the Apple Smart Case for the Air 2 like? I'm going to trade-in my 4th gen soon and i really like their leather cases for the 5S and later, so I might indulge myself for a nice case.

Got my iPad Air 2 yesterday, but trying to set Gmail up is a pain. I keep hitting the security trap even though it really shouldn't. I've tried restarting, verifying the account through iOS Safari, even deleting and recreating the mail account. It's really annoying and I can't get it to properly work.

The iPad Pro may never actually come out as just a bigger iPad, because of the simple fact that the MacBook Air and iPad Air still lead their markets, mostly in part because Apple don't fragment their offerings that much. I'm more convinced that Apple would release a 64GB MacBook Air 11" at $749.

Question about the SD card connector: does it copy RAW files over non-destructively? Copying the photos from my DSLR to my iPad might be less annoying than DSLR to MacBook.

If you don't mind buying separately, the Logitech Keys-to-Go, at 6mm, is thin enough to fit anywhere an iPad can. I like using it, at least.

flosofl posted:I don't think it splits it down the middle. According to the spec sheet it has a "pool" of 5V@4.8A available. It will probably supply whatever the upper limit of the charging circuitry in the device will take (up to 24W). I imagine if you charge a phone and an iPad it will first split, and if one device doesn't pull the full 12W, the surplus will go over the 2nd port (if the device will take that much). The iPad probably has a max draw of 12W anyway, although people will probably swear blind that they see faster charges with 24W, like how people claim that pre-6 iPhones charged faster with the 12W adapter (it didn't).

AlternateAccount posted:Well, the iPad Pro doesn't charge for poo poo if plugged into the dock of a Surface Pro 3. About 2 hours in and it had gone up all of 2%. Well, obviously. The power draw is almost certainly 500mA, just over a fifth of the power it draws from the in-box wall wart.
