I had a dream the other night that my pupper could climb trees, but he was really bad at staying in them, so I had to run around after him catching him when he'd fall out of trees after inevitably slipping.

UP THE BUM NO BABY posted:What breed is Apollo? Half german shepherd, half husky! I think. I adopted him from a shelter, the vet took a guess, and I heard from someone in a nearby town that there's someone breeding a purebred husky and gsd together! He's certainly got the husky "I'm too smart and cool for you" down pat, which is both hilarious and adorable, because he'll do anything for treats or bellyrubs.

I don't have pictures, but: today I got myself a new pillow for my bed. Swapped cases, got into bed, liked it... Apollo hopped up, went "what is that" and stood on the new pillow while sniffing it. While I was resting on it. He didn't step on me, but like, whoa buddy. It must've passed his test though, as he's now curled up in his usual spot.

Super Grocery Kart posted:Pestering me ‘cause it’s 5:15. Doggos eat at 5:30, so he got a snoot boop and scritches instead. My new habit with Apollo is to walk him half an hour before dinnertime (at 4:30 for food at 5) so instead of pestering me, he'll be out having fun and (hopefully) doing number two so when we get back inside he'll be ready for food and a long nap while I unwind for the evening. As opposed to my old habit of feeding him at 5 and walking him at 7 - the ol' poopin' machine was asleep by the time we got outside and I'd have to either walk him for a long time or run to get things moving, which was a pain in the butt.

I am so tired from trudging through all of that snow but he's ready for more and I'm... apparently going to gain muscle this winter just because Apollo needs to go romping. Which is good but right now I need five naps.

BigDave posted:But they seem to love it! You know how most dogs could get belly rubs for infinity? These weirdos have a specific belly rub tolerance and if you go over it even by a little bit they instantly switch from "that's good!" to "I'M GOING TO BITE YOUR HAND OFF" and it's... Just be careful, friends.

Apollo was kind enough to let me get up at midnight as I had a sore stomach - and he let me go back to bed and sleep until our usual time. No complaints, no demands for walks, just sweet blessed sleep. Praise dogs, praise dogs who learn that I want to walk them at five and not earlier. Amen!

Happy New Year! I want you folks to know that Apollo woke me up on time today, took me to the kitchen, and made sure I was aware that we caught a mouse in a trap this morning. We then went outside and played fetch in the snow for half an hour, and he's patrolling the kitchen now. I can't believe how much I love him and how happy I am that I adopted him last year. I hope you all are just as happy with your dogs.

Fortunately you folks are friendly and have good dogs! Also , of course it means that. FastestGunAlive posted:King of all he can see from atop his snow mountain, apollo is a good doggo He really, really is. He sits right down in the snow and stares at his stick and waits for me to throw it... and if I don't throw it and keep walking he'll move to sit in front of me and he looks so serious about it that I just laugh and toss it for him. He's better at carrying it around than I am!

I don't have a picture but I want you all to know how good I am at taking care of Apollo: we lost his favorite stick in the snow, and after I waded inside and defrosted, I then went back out with a shovel and had to dig through like a billion feet of snow before I finally found it. He, uh, helped! By digging two holes that went all the way through the ice and down to the actual earth! (I love him) (even if he jumped on me like twenty times while I was wading back to the house, favored stick in hand)

Gosh I finally have a picture: A long, hard day. After all of that excitement in the snow we had to play fetch and tug with his other favorite stick...and yes, he put his toybox right next to his bed. No clue why, all he wanted out of it was his chew ring (not pictured)

The only thing he doesn't like is out and out petting on the head. He'll put up with it, but he's like a cat - pet him more than once and he'll walk away. Chest rubs or back pets or - gasp - belly rubs - are a-okay instead!
