That is an interesting situation. Maybe it would be wise to try and negotiate benefits in lieu of money. Maybe extra vacation or 401k matching.

You would typically just ask for an extension for a week or so to allow some more time to mull it over. Haven't had a no with that yet.

You could call and during the conversation state that you have no availability during those posted hours.

And if the do this just because of a phone off of two requested hours you don't want to work there anyways. There is no reason not to try...
