How did he get it to combine everything? I can only get Readability and Instapaper to grab one chapter at a time. Though with the prev/next links working fine and the app keeping track of my progress, this is pretty much good enough for me.

According to my friend, "the version I loaded in Chrome seems to be the whole thing. I clicked 'read now' on the first page (Gestation 1.1), and that was it." Though he did note that, "I tried sending it to my kindle and it only sent some of the subchapters." Good luck!

Fun Shoe
Now that I look, Instapaper is doing it right sometimes. When I hit the next chapter link sometimes I get individual entries and sometimes it loads several in a row. Probably something to do with the way it detects a "next page" link.

Either way, it keeps track of progress and paginates so it is good enough for me.

I love how, even with everything bleak, the story still retains some humor and charm.

Spoiler : Cockroaches 28 -1

I like that they're managing to regroup, even if they can't do much- the parallel earths thing is a good excuse to take Scion out of the story for a little bit, and honestly, I'm really curious what's going to happen when you have Endbringers that are showing up on a world without anything left to really destroy. This reads like a pretty good story reset in some ways, and it'll be nice to take the action down a level for a few chapters and get some new/cool development.

28.1: Man, that poo poo is bleak. I'll give Wildbow credit, I have no idea how anything goes from here. Normally in stories like this the main character gets some ludicrous power up or a dues ex appears at the critical moment, but stuff is already so wrecked that even if they somehow "win" everything is still pretty much hosed.

Love that bit about the Simurgh showing up and having nothing to do.

Edit: Also unreasonably pleased that Parian and Foil are hanging in there. They're like the one good thing that's happened in the entire story that hasn't ended in horrible tragedy (yet).

stolen from the comments: The Simurgh descends from the sky. She marches up to a human baby. It is one of the last human babies on Bet. It is archetypal; in that moment, it is Everybaby, a shining slightly smelly exemplar of humanity as a whole.

She takes its candy.

The baby bursts into helpless, defeated tears as the Simurgh, victorious, flies away.

I like the idea that the Simurgh only needs to appear to lend despair and destruction. That it's enough for her to arrive and act like everything's so hosed she doesn't need to do anything, and THAT is enough to accomplish her goals. Masterfully bleak.

I also still wonder whether Eidolon was actually KILLED. Tattletale? says they 'lost' him, but I know authors like Wildbow; that'll actually mean he turned his coat and joined Scion or something...

I guess we'll find out when we get some input on what happened in GU's video feed - Rachel mentions that she made it back with the vid intact.

I was also surprised to see Grue get put out to pasture. It makes some sense considering what he's been through, but it isn't too often you see major characters get taken down by PTSD.

It's something of a special situation. He's been heading down this road ever since Bonesaw turned him into a one-man meat locker.

I'm going to be disappointed if this isn't brought up, like how they eventually explained the origin of the unfortunate Assault & Battery name pairing :3:

With other odd thoughts, am I the only one who's just a little bit happy that Canary got let out of the Birdcage? Of course, I just caught up, so it's fresh, but I was thinking, while they were letting folks out "I hope they're going to let out that poor girl who got indefinite detention in Hell because her powers went cuckoo."

I was pretty (slaughterhouse 9 arc?)devastated when Battery died. Assault and Battery were minor side characters but they really felt like they had their own full stories that we were just teased with in her interlude.

I think Wildbow actually does have full stories with most of the cast written, but they are never to be released.

I don't know about full stories, but the setting and characters are all based off years of accumulated short stories. Enough that we'll proably never see all the various potential arcs that could have or might have happened. Example; I remember Wildbow mentioning in the comments that at one point The Travelers were in contention with Taylor for who was going to be the main focus of the serial. I'm glad Taylor won out. The Travelers had some good dramatic hooks, but I really didn't care much for any of the actual characters. They're serviceable enough as tragic amtagonists, but I don't think I'd enjoy them as the centeral characters. Their origin arc is maybe my least favorite thing in the archive.

I honestly really liked worm but ever since the whole [late spoilers] CLONING SLAUGHTER HOUSE 9, ~9 SIBERIANS~ and now they are all like mind controlled slaves of jack. It just seems like a plot arc that was done way better with Enchidna/Noelle. I just cant seem to get back into it since that happened.

The bombing run on Crawler and Mannequin that left stuff like fires that won't go out, temporal distortions, and localized radiation.

If I could just get most of the way caught up on my Kindle, I wouldn't mind reading the rest as it came out on the site.

All-purpose thread I will save you from turning into the Worm thread.

So what other good web serials are out there anyway? I've tried to navigate a few of them and they seem to follow the general internet 90-10 ratio of poo poo to gold. I checked through the Web Fiction Guide but some of the recommendations thrown out by it are...questionable (i.e. either terrible porn or other superhero stories or terrible superhero porn). Seriously I'm never gonna get back those 30mins I spent trying to read Tales of MU. Someone recommended Ra earlier and I'm starting on that. Any others you guys have uncovered?

I've poked around a fair bit and Worm is honestly the only one I've found. Some are okay, but my reading list is too long already, I don't want to waste time reading poo poo that's merely okay.

It really isn't much of a shock. The web fiction community is pretty tiny and probably contains very few true aspiring authors. I'd say the bigger surprise is that it's managed to produce even one piece decent quality work.

Well that was a chapter. The Endbringers are freaking the gently caress out it looks like. The question is whether the theories on Eidolon creating them are right and no one control's them now, or if it's a signal from the group that controls them. I think the latter, and I think they're going to be used against Scion. Also, 5 Endbringers and 5 groups mentioned by Dinah?

I'm still curious on the Endbringers. The sheer volume of capes that have been lost to them seems like it wasn't worth it if they've been held as an anti-Scion force from the start.

I really disliked Armsmaster as a person, but I really like Defiant. On the other hand, before we were actually introduced directly to him when he shut down Dragon, I thought I was going to like Saint but I ended up not.

Just another hard man making hard choices that actually didn't need to be made and just make things worse.

Every time someone makes Hard Choices it ultimately ends badly though. Idealistic choices don't seem to leave regrets and consequences are transient. Hard practical choices kick everyone in the nuts down the road.

I was thinking more each group using an Endbringer as the gathering point/core.
