The revival of the serial story is kind of fascinating. I'm kind of surprised that it's taken as long as it has, given that the web has been ripe for this type of distribution for several years now. I guess that would explain why it's A Thing this year, as publishers have figured out that the internet is perfect for this kind of thing. We saw Kindle Serials start up late last year, and sci-fi author John Scalzi came up with the idea of writing The Human Division with his publisher at around the same time. It'll be interesting to see whether serials survive reintroduction or if it's an experiment that will eventually peter out.
