berenzen posted:Well, I suppose that just happened. If there's any point that Skitter's going to have her second trigger, it'd probably be right about now. During Scion's update it seems that she was basically on the verge of it happening, plus the fact that she's come to terms with the passenger and herself- which was apparently one of the things keeping her back, and she was just abandoned by pretty well everyone. I hope so. I'd really like her to have a power up and be a heavy hitter or something. Edit: Also, here is some surely incorrect theorizing: Well here goes with my interpretation of the various roles. Ive combined both what this arc chapter specifies as well as what the role means in a general or historical sense, at least as I believe it to be. Fairy queen: Glaistig Uaine Queen administrator: Taylor Champion: Chevalier or Legend. Leaning to the former due to the latters involvement with Cauldron. Defiant is out due to his fall and redemption cycle ill fitting this persona and Grue is too damaged and unknown (comparably). Helping to keep the court on the path set by the high priest. Consistently noble, fighting for their cause/side/faith. A standard to which others aspire. Skill in arms, skill in leadership. Protection of those in need. Inspiring. High priest: Scion or Jack. Leaning towards Scion as Jack is out of commission, and while Scion could (I believe) neutralize Gray Boys loop of Jack, it doesnt resolve the latters being anything but a catalyst. Another set piece if you will. Initiator of the conflict. Deserving of Respect. Is not fully apprised of what the main group is doing/conspiring. Not in communication. Is rigid and putting on an act, wears mask(s) to hide his/her true self. S/he who sets events in motion. Did expect a new play, but now there is no finale. Interface between man and the divine. Keeper of the faith/secrets/mysteries. Interprets Gods will and/or words to the world. Observer: Dinah. Opposite the Champion in keeping the act in motion. Watcher. Neutral. Witness. Arbiter. Shaper: Riley or Panacea. Helps clean up the aftermath of the Act. Ability to shape, given the context of the zenith of this Act, humans. To further elucidate, the planet is a mess with hundreds of millions dead. The core of the defense and vision consists of parahumans, very few in number and in immediate vicinity to the Acts culmination. This suggests that the Shaper is directly related to them and their cause. Demesne-keeper: Labyrinth. Demesne means manorial land actually possessed by the lord and not held by tenants. Bear this in mind when interpreting this persons identity and role. is the lord the same or other than the high priest? is the lord even a person? Is it the species? And with tenants being humans does that rule out this Earth plane? I dont know if I err or not by excluding Cauldron capes. I do believe at this point, though, that they are the Antagonists if this story and Scion will ultimately redeem and grow/learn/evolve. Cauldron are the other court and the final conflict will be the two courts in battle Fellwenner fucked around with this message at 13:02 on Aug 22, 2013 |

Taylor's more or less normal physical makeup means her aorta is severed and she's probably about a minute or two away from permanent brain damage. It could be one of those things that progresses the story, simply from a different set of eyes. Here's hoping.

I like these last couple of chapters. Got a real Undersiders feel to it, from back in the beginning. It struck me that Taylor really is like Jack Slash, only without the joyful homicides. Seemed much more apparent, having to manage difficult, violent personalities. Also got another hint of something between Tattletale and Taylor, or is that just me? But yeah, she's scary as hell, if you think she probably now has Gavel's power, Eidolon's power, various of the power-combining things... Yowsa. I do wonder if she's related to the third entity rather than either of the first two. Maybe that's one way that they could win. GU harvests enough to be make up for the loss of the dead worm and Scion just lets that be the cycle. Although it does look like it's shaping up for Taylor to pull some perfect planning out or something.

NecroMonster posted:The more I try to convince myself that Taylor is dead the less and less I am able to. Contessa can as good as read Taylor's mind "Didnt deserve to, either way." is the answer that she got, and it's at least to Taylor, an honest one. It's also very indicative of Taylor's self doubt and self questioning. Then you have the two bullets, and The Simurgh. If the Simurgh wanted Taylor dead, she wouldn't have fired a blow-dryer at Taylor, let alone a blow-dryer that Taylor dodged, she could have easily used her Telekinetic abilities and her amazingly powerful senses to kill Taylor then and there, but she didn't. Instead she seems to have altered Taylor's course to point her toward Glaistig. So either Taylor is alive, or the meeting with Taylor was used as a method of effecting Contessa somehow. I'm pretty much with you on this one. There are parallels with the Echidna encounter, in which a person uses their shard, becomes subsumed by it and needs to be dealt with. Noelle at the end gives in and the shard bears out her memories and perceived injustices while speaking with Sundancer and stating its purpose; it is consumed with eating everyone in the world and making them pay. Noelle were she in her right mind wouldn't purposefully do such a thing, but her shard would. There's no Noelle left, no humanity or morality. Taylor meanwhile uses her shard in much the same way that Noelle did and that extensive use coupled with mental and physical damages eventually gives control to the shard. It immediately perceives the world in much the same way as Echidna did, through how to achieve the goals of peace, cooperation, control. Things proceed, but during the encounter with G.U., in a moment of conflict between host and passenger, the remaining members of her swarm are freed, whether by the shard being convinced by Taylor or Taylor wresting control back I don't know. At the end Taylor is lost, confused, and most importantly introspective and regretful. I don't see that as anything but human and is in keeping with Taylor's personality. Potential S-class threat which needs to be dealt with for the greater good is understandable, but I just see a different divergence here which makes the turn towards Taylor simply being killed wholly unnecessary. The two bullets issue is laid to rest when the S9 clones are given as an example of Contessa previously double tapping. The part I question is why was the second bullets purpose stated as being to prevent pain? I don't understand that. What's the point? There's maybe a second before the second bullet is fired and she'd be dead regardless. NecroMonster posted:And why create so drat much ambiguity at Taylor's fate at the end if there is no chance that she actually survived. Agreed wholeheartedly. True, there are six installments left and anything could happen, but this was billed as being 'The End' and should be totally unambiguous.

I guess we disagree for now. What I'm referring to in this regard is the newest name that Contessa gave her and its meaning, plus the wording of the small two bullets paragraph. I don't think either are clear cut, although I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it turns out to be nothing at all.
