I'm surprised she even got financed earning $1,300 per month for double the blue book value. I'm not even sure this is a good deal for the lender, since they look to be an independent financing company that works with dealerships.

What does the finance company expect to do when in the event of a repo? Finance companies don't want to hold on to the cars. If they gave the dealership a lump sum payment of 90% of the $12K credit line, then they'd be taking a huge bath when they try to re-sell it to the next dealership.

I worked at a leasing firm that was very similar to ByRider, from what I see on their website. Maybe it's different with a loan, but there's a reason we capped the financed amount at a little over Blue Book.

I think they are a Buy here, Pay here dealer, which means they LOVE to get a few payments and then just repossess and sell it again.

I thought most universities would only accept about 60 to 75 credits from a community college towards a bachelor's? Unless credits work differently where you are.

I'd have to go check my transcript, I think I transferred the maximum of 124cr (I had CompSci interests in high school so those classes all transferred too, in addition to 100% of the 100&200 levels I needed for my B.S.)

I'm in Oregon so we use quarter credits - in semester credits it would be ~83cr. I just checked and the Oregon University system allows 124 quarter credits to transfer.

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. We use semester credits in Arizona, so 124 for you would be 62 for us.

Then clearly they failed to identify proper sources.

I was not able to fit finance courses in my university education because I was doing some other minor. So I borrowed textbooks from the public library, where they were clearly marked and readily available for all citizens to borrow.

Then I endured the pain and agony of suffering through the 3 textbooks (authored by professors from 3 different universities for source diversity) and became a better man for it. I did other work too, but the textbooks were arguably the foundation of all that followed.

What I did could be done by any citizen (except the intellectually disabled, which is a distinct minority). Public libraries are free. And so is the suffering and agony of reading the extremely boring textbooks.

She should definitely apply for IBR as soon as possible. If she's a teacher, look into the federal loan forgiveness program - certain professions (such as teaching) are eligible for loan forgiveness after 10 years of payments. If her debt exceeds 10 years worth of low IBR payments and her teaching job is eligible, it would make the higher interest and slow payoff matter much, much less.

Even better would be the teacher loan forgiveness for 5 years of service you get up to 17,500 forgiven with no tax penalties. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/teacher

And then I'm pretty sure you can also apply for the 10 year forgiveness if you haven't paid them off before then.

Actually I just did some quick checking and the 10 years would start after the five years of the teacher loan forgiveness grant, so if the balances are very high it may be worth it to just go straight for the 10 year.

Which types of federal student loans qualify for PSLF?
A qualifying loan for PSLF is any loan you received under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program.

You may have received loans under other federal student loan programs, such as the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program or the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program. Loans from these programs do not qualify for PSLF, but they may become eligible if you consolidate them into a Direct Consolidation Loan. However, only qualifying payments that you make on the new Direct Consolidation Loan can be counted toward the 120 payments required for PSLF. Any payments you made on the FFEL Program loans or Perkins Loans before you consolidated them don’t count.

FFEL includes Stafford loans and plus loans so yup.

I don't really care about this guy and I don't "think he's smart" but I don't think he's a retard either just because he made predictions that were true.

If I watched a guy win a slot machine 20 times in a row, I would get a refill on my rum and coke and wait for the security guards to escort him out of the casino for hacking machines. The odds of that actually happening legitimately would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 in 10^94
