I had read the first few issues of Saga last year and really enjoyed it, but never took the time to get into it properly. Cue me waiting in an airport in Germany for 8 hours for a flight home just before Christmas. Absolutely exhausted and bored off my head. I burned through about 24 issues of Saga on my tablet between falling asleep, drinking coffee and falling asleep. I was tired, cranky and stressed. All which were the perfect factors that led me to absolutely falling in love with it. I re-read most of it on the actual trip home and just think it't the bee's knees. That is my Saga story. I think that lying cat scene is probably one of the sweetest moments in the comic, but I can relate to people not getting it. It's like showing someone the final scene of True Detective It's a cool scene, but you need to understand the characters and world to understand what makes it so special. Also, it's goons being goons.

I'm at Emerald City Comic Con, and there's a couple here doing an absolutely AMAZING cosplay of Alana and Marko. Gonna try to snag a picture if I get a chance.

Jedit posted:- a poster in the forum for people who watch cartoons in which underage girls flash their panties and adult women are routinely infantilised. I remember digging Anime back when Toonami first hit the air, seeing stuff like Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star. I jumped ship after I saw Love Hina, with only a few glances back every now and then to see if anything like Cowboy Bebop came out (Gurren Lagaan and Space Dandy are pretty fun). I stayed with a couple of friends for a week like a year ago, and they watched like 2 and half hours of that newer poo poo a day. And it was all creepy as hell stuff with a bunch of barely (or just plain not) legal girls trying to "not" gently caress the bland as poo poo main guy. The worst part is, just from watching the shows, it felt like that crap was made in a factory, just take one boring as hell guy, who looks boring so the lonely gently caress watching the show can use him as a place holder for himself, then throw 4 to 7 girl parts with whatever fetish you can think of in a gross masterbatory Potpourri, and serve with a dash of generic plot line. A lot of people give DT a hard time about Senran, but at least it's a decent game. I generally like being open minded about stuff, and have read a lot of indie stuff when I can find it, but man, the current environment of anime and manga is just messed up. As for Saga stuff, I find it a really hard series to just link one page as a really good emotional panel, as most of it is a build up process. Something it and Transformers: More Then Meets the Eye do really well. I mean the last pages of chapter 23 and 24 are amazing, but only in context. The only single moment of amazing with no real build up that I can think of is the Janitor robot's speech to Prince Robot's wife, and even that was three pages.

I just finished catching up on this after getting a copy of Volume 4 and this comic has me alternating from laughing to tearing up to loudly swearing every page. There's no way this should be allowed to be so good all the time. The wait for the next issue is going to be far too long, isn't it? It's been a long time since I've read anything as it's getting released.

This was the first comic I decided to keep up with on a month-to-month basis this millennium. Since then I've climbed aboard the Rat Queens, Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and Spider-Gwen trains, too.

I know you've made up your mind on a body of media significantly larger than american comics by volume and spanning over 40 years based on a few episodes of Toonami years ago and your weirdo friends who apparently get together and watch anime porn on the reg, but here is a good thread in BSS, so you won't even have to soil yourself by entering ADTRW http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3568801

Listen, Anime was fun in the toonami era, as american comic and cartoon media had kind of stagnated at that point, and needed something to spice it up and show that you could take risks in those medium. Anime did that, and now we can reap the benefits, with stuff like Saga.

You're doing yourself an extreme disservice to dismiss an entire artform/the output of a country. Missing out on Shirobako or Your Lie In April is just generally not something I would consider a good idea just based upon "sometimes they make shows that are gross." Give them an episode or two then decide if they're worth it.

On a more Saga-relevant note: the third trade has been shortlisted for the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, so... cool!

I have read Qualia the Purple and One-punch Man, and watched Space Dandy, those are recent. Anyway, this is the Saga thread, so if you want to recommend me anime or manga, just PM me, or just post in the high quality manga thread.

As much as it's not a great comic, Walking Dead will probably get credit for sparking the Image Renaissance. Rightfully so, even if it took ten years for that comic to do so.
