I remember computing about a decade or so ago that the price California farmers pay for water was about 70 times cheaper than residents paid on their water bills. We really do grow water-sensitive crops in semi-arid regions. At least politicians have started acknowledging that the problem might be the subsidized pricing rather than suggest people take fewer showers when there's a drought.
