Yeah that Mania sure did suck But just wait till you get to Backlash I've been watching a lot of 1998 ECW, maybe I should start one of these threads for that. Unless it would clutter things up too much.

That Jericho/Benoit finish pissed me off on my re-watching of WWF last year. Jericho comes out on Raw the next night, makes fun of Benoit for only making him pass out and not making him tap out, and says he never really lost the match. Benoit beat you up so bad you passed out in his hold, Jericho! In a world where we are familiar with MMA, this whole thing is so dumb.

Skinty McEdger posted:HHH didn't mind jobbing to people that weren't a threat. He could look bad against a Taka for example without being worried about the guy being elevated and becoming a threat. Dave talked about this a bit... guys like Nash and Hogan would "put guys over" in a way that was clearly not meant to establish a new star. Then they could say "but I jobbed to THIS guy" whenever someone got on their case about being assholes. HHH wasn't so mocking in the way he put guys over, but yeah it wasn't like he was trying to make a new star out of TAKA.

Foley coming out to constantly take away Benoit's wins really annoyed me. WWE had some really hypocritical points around this time. Why did Foley only police some finishes, and not others? Why did announcers get so mad at Edge & Christian for cheating, but Lita had free reign to interfere in all Hardy Boys matches? I know it's the face/heel thing, but even when I was younger and not so smarky this kind of thing bugged me.

Yeah it takes a long time for WWE to really give Eddie a shot. They let him run around the lower midcard being hilarious with Chyna and such, but it feels like he doesn't get the chance to shine in-ring like Benoit does. Probably has something to do with him getting hurt really early on and Vince not trusting him or something.

Yeah that Undertaker/Kurt match inspired quite the rant from one of the dirtsheet guys, it was pretty funny. And when people say "Oh Bikertaker wasn't that bad" you basically point them to that match to shut them up. No one should be able to have a match that bad with Kurt Angle.

The "Vince puts Linda in a coma" storyline is one of the worst things WWE has done, but at least it has a good payoff at Mania.

JGKing posted:It was barely mentioned at all. They threw it out alongside "Vince wants a divorce" as though it was equally normal, but didn't go into the reason behind it or even how it happened. Do you remember? Okay my memory on this whole thing is kind of hazy but here's how I remember it going down: • Linda backs up Foley as commish, or does something else to piss off Vince • Vince says he wants a divorce, Stephanie is traumatized • HEEL TURN Stephanie actually loves Vince and also wants Linda out of the picture • Linda has some sort of breakdown (off camera maybe?) • Vince puts her in some kind of hospital, there's a scene where he & Trish are wheeling her around in a wheelchair. Now Vince can do whatever he wants without his wife nagging him, hooray! • DELETED SCENE • Linda gets her revenge at Mania, triumphantly getting out of the wheelchair and kicking Vince in the nuts
