There's no actual reason to shoot the shot trap on the Panther, other than it being a ~historical tactic~ for guns that couldn't pen it from the front. And what do you know, any tank the Panther actually sees has a good enough gun to just power through the turret face, and probably the flat part of the mantlet, much more reliably and to greater effect.
