S-Alpha posted:Anyone else shooting for that Phoenix emblem? I am, but I'm not entirely sure I can still get it at this point. I finally dropped below 10,000 in the ranking overnight, and even with a forced sortie using all three units of my supplied fuel this morning I only gained back about as many ranks as I had normally been with one (I miss that forced sortie on Pipeline where I shot up a couple thousand ranks, I wish that would keep happening). My plan was to wait until the final hours and then forced sortie all the time to hopefully get back to the top thousand as quickly as possible, but the way things are looking now I'll be lucky if I can even get back under five-thousand. Still, sitting on fifteen stocked fuel at the moment, and all of my supplied should recharge before all's said and done, so I should still have a shot. On the plus side, I finally got the Zipang and the Tokyo OEL medal thing.

Never played an AC game before, but I think this is pretty fun. The fuel system is, of course, a real annoyance but it's not like I need to be playing the game 24/7. Questions though, when do SP weapons start being upgradeable? How does Matching Rate (mine is 1564) affect roomsearching? Do you get anything for going through the single player campaign? PSN name is rubberluffy. Still got about 30 minutes before I get some more fuel, though.

I've been hovering between 3k-7k since it started, running off supplied fuel/refreshes and whatever I get from challenges and rewards, and I'm probably going to have to burn through my small stockpile too to scrape out Mercenary King. Up past 3k it just gets completely ridiculous, so no hope for Phoenix unless you brought your wallet. Or you've been stockpiling since day 1. Or you're a wizard.

And it has overall better stats than the Typhoon, which costs almost twice as much. oh god the f-22 and t-50 are nearly seven hundred thousand each SelenicMartian posted:The price of taking a Fishbed from level 6 to level 7 is 288,000? Are they nuts? I mean, SAAM is good under certain conditions, but what the hell. I think they did something to the SAAMs in this game from the days of AC5 and Zero when I fell in love with those. I've fired off every one of them on my F-15C in the three or four sorties I've flown with it so far, and I think I've hit maybe two planes with them. This isn't even taking into account the fact that those two planes I've hit with them were the super-tough IL-76's, so I technically don't even have a single kill with them yet.

Is there no active countermeasure option in this game, like flares/chaff? In AH it was to push in the left stick, but in AC:I, it seems it's "turn hard" or "get hit".

For people looking for credits, use the Forced Sortie to your advantage. If you see a ton of good people in your room, sortie with 3x fuel and get a 3.50x multiplier on your cash and exp.

It is not objectively worse though, I think. It trades speed for better mobility over the F-22. Otherwise they have similar stats (and slightly different upgrade slot distribution). But yes, I think it looks cooler as well.

You may not get a good personal score, but S-ranking a mission with like... 2 minutes to spare gives you a lot of points for the event. Aerospace center defense is bad for that too, since the fastest I have seen the rocket launch is with a minute to go.

Yeah, every time I learn more about how this game actually works I also learn that I like Aerospace a little less. The hovercrafts, much like XSAMs everywhere else, apparently aren't worth as many points as they should be given the kind of punishment they can take, the emergency mission targets always come in way too far away from where the actual mission is going on (Scinfaxi in particular, I've killed it maybe half of the times it's come up and none of those times were at Aerospace), and S-ranks just generally do not happen here. I think the highest I've got at Aerospace Defense is B, whereas Alps, Tokyo and Pipeline I've S-ranked at least once or twice each.

For my super hornet, hovercrafts take 2 shot, so it is not that bad. There is a definite pattern to Aerospace though. Clean up the two sides, converge at the middle since that is close to where all the possible emergency missions will be. Once that is done, either a fleet will spawn near center, or bunch of stuff at west, I think. If your team wipes everything out, you get to fly around and wait for the rocket to launch. My recent preference is to chase the rocket, and try to stay in its exhaust trail.

EDIT: On the plus side: I S-ranked Dubai for the first time (impressive given I've played it maybe three times prior), my frantic climb back up the rankings included jumping over a thousand places ahead twice in a row, I ended up getting three more units of stocked fuel through various drops for one more sortie, my Mirage 2000-5 can now launch 4AAMs if I need it to (I am very sad that my slowest plane is quickly becoming the only one worth flying), and I'm now one step further on my path to both the Su-35 and F-15E.
