And we finally meet the main character of the first arc. I really hope they don't change the ending for the Anime.

Also a pity they cut out this scene:

Otherwise we seem to be going for a frame to frame adaption of the manga.

Even as someone who hasn't even looked at the manga, the show so far has felt like a direct adaptation. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it was something that I picked up on. By comparison, AoT doesn't feel like an adaptation at all (I haven't read that manga either).

So episode 4 is up and in conjunction with the release of the episode about horses, here's a fairly new A/T thread about Thoroughbred Racing and horses that was originally conceived due to curiosity in a GBS thread (about something completely tangential) after comments about Secretariat were made.

What do you do with a drunken Viking?

The dramatic sled race and resulting denouement into exploration of all the various veterinary tools was awesome. That and the horse funeral seem like they are teaching really good lessons. I hope the show is doing ok in Japan so we can get more!

And on a lighter note, I love that they name the pig pork bowl. It was always fun at the fair seeing all the kids with sheep named lamb chop etc.

I don't know about the show but if I remember right the manga was like the third or fourth best-selling series in Japan last year so you shouldn't have to worry about its popularity.

Mmm... pizza.

Real fun seeing the cast put that one together, and it was nice to see that Hachiken's first big triumph wasn't derailed by PLOT or something (which I was slightly concerned about when his old teacher showed up, among other things).

I've never seen it, being in the US, but honestly it doesn't sound like that bad an idea. Then again, I am a veggies kind of guy.

But watching them eat those pizzas... I almost salivated onto my shirt staring at them. It's decided, I'm ordering Dominoes for lunch tomorrow.

This is the kind of thing that I love about Silver Spoon, the plot is definitely moving forward (Hachiken being accidentally proactive is still a step above reactive) but it happens at a natural pace while a bunch of other stuff goes on. It feels right for the subject.

gently caress Dominoes, make some yourself! Seriously, homemade pizza is easy and delicious and blows away anything you can get from a pizza franchise. If you've got an oven then you can make pizza.

And now I really want to build a brick oven. And to try gouda instead of mozzarella.

Since the anime was announced, this was the storyline I wanted to see, and man did they do it justice.

Incidentally, pizza is way easier to make than you might think. Most supermarkets sell pre-made pizza dough, meaning all you have to do is roll it out, and the rest is simple.

This. There's one more storyline I'm looking forward to more than this one, but hell I'm looking forward to every drat episode so..

Edit: For those wondering, (manga spoilers) it's the fund Hachiken puts together to buy Pork Bowl and have him processed.

As people have already said it's really easy, and with a little practice you can make great dough, and you can even make a big batch and freeze the leftover dough. After you make dough it's just a matter of throwing poo poo you like on as toppings.

The humor in the other episodes has hit surprisingly well for me, and the pizza episode owned so hard. I like it enough I might check out the manga (I've never read any manga or comic book before :ohdear:)

e: vvv Now that you mention it, I could get everything but the dough at my local farmers market. The only drawback is that I have to wait until Saturday. :negative:

I've made a lot of homemade pizzas. Like everyone else has said, it's really easy. Making dough is easy too. I have a pizza stone that I use and the crust comes out really great. Regardless, I've never rolled the dough with a rolling pin. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's a bad idea. I generally let it stretch over my hand and pull it into a semi-round shape.

I wish I could twirl it like the professionals do. That has to be the best way.

I will have to give gouda a try on my next homemade pizza. There is an Italian specialty shop down the street that sells everything you need from pre-made dough to their own sauce to their own cheese and pepperoni. Homemade from these ingredients is better than anything you can buy from any restaurant. What will ruin you is the frozen crap you bake.

This episode is the turning point for Hachiken, in my opinion.

While rolling with a pin is not as traditional there is nothing wrong with it, it just tends to get you a somewhat thicker crust and can be appropriate depending on the composition of the dough, with a high gluten dough throwing is better because it gets you a very thin, crisp crust and that is the whole point of a high gluten crust. But if you want a softer, more bread like crust rolling can work well because there is less chance of having the dough tear, and a low gluten crust is much more likely to tear.

Also, throwing is easy, I got it down in about half an hour of practice, just have some spare dough to make your pizza with in case you end up with it on the floor. Gouda should work well, especially a nice young gouda. Asparagus is a fine ingredient also, and goes nicely with the bacon.

I really shouldn't have watched this episode repeatedly for the pizza. I ended up making my own yesterday. Note that I do not possess a working oven or a pizza stone, just a sturdy toaster oven.

Still, I managed to make pizza dough from scratch with a simple recipe and my own sauce. Definitely worth it.
