Oh my, this will be good. The only Piers Anthony book that still holds up on rereading for me is Prostho Plus, for mildly amusing dentist sf comedy. I am looking forward to the book with Grey Murphy, Dumbest Man Alive.

Trent is an early case of Anthony's obsession with sitting around and logic-chopping honor and integrity so finely that everyone involves totally misses the point. Anthony Character #1: Hi there - I'm not going to kill you. Anthony Character #2: That's great! I was about to burn down the orphanage unless you killed me! Anthony Character #1: Crap! And I promised not to kill you too! What will I do now? I know, I'll go on a wacky adventure to distract me from all these on-fire orphans [EXITS]

Bieeardo posted:I came across an issue of his newsletter from god knows when, while trying to identify the book with the artistic side-track. Skimming it, it largely related to his sorry state of his sexual apparatus, with an entire, very much too long paragraph dedicated to the (apparently numerous) people who asked why he didn't just take Viagra. If you want to know how that problem was resolved, http://www.hipiers.com/13jan.html (DON'T ACTUALLY READ THIS)

Lottery of Babylon posted:Have there been any women at all in the series that haven't ended up married? Even random bit players like the gorgon seem to marry quickly. The only one I can think of is the neo-sorceress from the past, whose sole motivation was wanting to marry. Don't worry! She's already married at this point in the timeline, and is the mother of Grey Murphy, the earlier-mentioned Dumbest Man In Xanth.

IIRC she and Magician Murphy escape during the Time of No Magic, move to Mundania, and shack up. (oh god why do i remember all this stuff)

This is the last Piers Anthony book I paid money for, and the point where all my doubts crystallised. The next book's awful elfquest crossover was the final stake in the heart. Meet Grey Murphy, the Dumbest Man Alive.

Oh man this is it, this is the dumbest thing in Xanth. Grey Murphy is a loving idiot and so is everyone around him. Grey Murphy thinks: * you are required to follow any deals your parents made, even if they force you into evil. * it is not ethical to trash the entity that is forcing you to be evil. Slavery is clearly Totally Okay by Grey Murphy, and presumably he would argue that a slave rebelling is being dishonorable. Grey and Ivy also sit there watching video of his parents having sex, which is pretty skeevy. And then there's this line: 'WAIT! I AM AN EVIL MACHINE! WE MUST POOL OUR RESOURCES FOR GREATER EVIL THAN EVER.'

Don't worry, as will be seen shortly, Iris is still as deviously evil and female as she was in the first book.

And here it is: http://www.elfquest.com/comic_viewer.php?fd=/gallery/OnlineComics/XAN/_ElfQuest%20-%20Xanth%20-%20Return%20to%20Centaur_page=1 Only the first half of the book got done, thank god. (This was during the period where the Pinis were letting other people draw and write Elfquest stuff, which could make for an awful Let's Read of its very own.)

quote:"Am I sexy now, Good Magician?" she inquired coyly. This is all new territory for me. Holy crap.

Selachian posted:Kirlian Quest is the third book in Anthony's "Cluster" trilogy. I recall it as being fairly sane, by Anthony's standards. On the other hand, Chthon, whoo boy. The Cluster series was still pretty odd - lots and lots of alien sex and bodyswapping and possession.
