felonious assault with a sproinging boner
The other day I was adding some of those Soundcloud tracks to WhoSampled.com (mostly using that spreadsheet as a reference) and then I remembered something. Did anyone ever find out where that vocal sample in "Isopropophlex" (and the Come to Daddy music video) is from? A bunch of sources say it's from The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews (which RDJ sampled in a handful of other tracks), but it isn't. It still sounds kind of like Andrews' voice though.

(Speaking of Julie Andrews, "Human Rotation" would have been an absolute killer if it was released around 1991 when the description says it was recorded. I wonder if RDJ ever played it live back then...)

According to Tom Middleton, RDJ played that track or a version of it back in 1989 when he performed as PBOD.

quote:

The Bowgie Inn, West Pentire, near Newquay, Cornwall. The ‘one more tune’ Rich dropped around 12.22 am, late 1989 I think. He was known as PBOD (Phonic Boy On Dope) in those pre Aphex days. Spinning Detroit techno, Chicago acid, New York garage, UK rave, proto-jungle and electronica, Belgian techno and new beat. It was a sweaty old place, with a classic Turbo soundsystem.

Who was there? An interesting bunch if you check their current credentials! Me, Grant Wilson-Claridge (pre Rephlex), Manuel Sepulveda (aka Optigram; sleeve designer for Hyperdub/Warp), Luke Vibert, Marcus Scott (label manager at Hyperdub). And what happened? After an ear bleeding analogue Roland drum machine and Synth assault of obscure white label imports, Rich closed the night with this insane twisted acid tech funk track that spun us right out from the start.

Imagine the collective shock as the track opens with birdsong and what sounds like a film soundtrack score (Sound Of Music – WTF!!!) then this nasty, evil squidgy acid sound backed by relentless 808 hand claps piles in, dropping into a heavy 808 electro-techno beat. The acid gets even nastier as the EQ and Filters are tweaked well beyond the factory preset allowances into sub and supersonic dog disrupting territory. Rich pumps the smoke machine and cranks the strobe into epilepsy induction mode. We’re going loopy on the floor.

I just got done going through the 150 odd tracks and there's some absolute gold mixed in with a lot of what amount to entertaining b-sides but I was really, really hoping for more Drukqs era tunes, specifically his organ and piano work as those tracks were gorgeous and a joy to listen to.

Its perfect road trip music thats for sure. There are only a selective few that i tend to skip and they are the crazy mental high-pitch hurt-my-ears ones. Everything else is really solid just from a passive-listening standpoint (that is most of 100+ tracks are some hard-hitting 90's dance stuff). Really glad he decided to put all this stuff out, happy i had the time to digest.

It never stops.

A couple of record stores around Portland are stocking some weird Aphex Twin vinyl that's all black except a logo sticker with absolutely no information other than that on the case. One of the stores actually bar codes everything that includes titles that reads "SIR RICHARD D JA," but nothing comes up on Google/discogs/files/this thread.

Anyone see this? It's, like, $40 too, so I've been to scared to throw my cash down with zero idea.

poo poo, I totally forgot to mention that it wasn't, actually.

This one looks like it could be a two LP set in a gatefold by look/weight.

One day I found out that my urine was acting like a powerful foaming agent.
Pretty sure that's a bootleg of the Caustic Window album that came out of the Kickstarter thing last year. Probably made from the digital audio files. Would avoid.

If setting the Sustain Level in the ENV to around 7, you can obtain a howling sound.

Is there an archive of the Syrobonkers interviews pt. 1 and 2? I don't care about the tracks, but I read the interviews in a rush while boarding a plane a while back and between the circumstances and all the goofball spelling and grammar, I didn't retain much. I'd love to re-read them.

Albert 14th is some kind of weird version of the Eastenders (UK soap) theme. Dunno about the rest. Maybe someone registered the user18081971 name after he deleted it, then changed name to bumtrumpet so the url is still the user18081971? Not sure how soundcloud works.
