Fucknag posted:Hey, if there's any car you could legitimately call an investment, I think an E-type would qualify. Especially a low-mile, rust-free one bought for a fraction of its current value. Even dumping a ton of money into this beautiful thing will be a financial good move.

Citycop posted:I think it's time to sell it. I mean how much more money will you get compared to the amount of work that is going to be needed to get it up to good condition from this point? A runs and drives XKE has to be worth quite a bit. I don't know about selling it, but I kinda cringe thinking this thing is in for a full restore -- how many XK-Es EXIST in original condition, much less run? They are only original once. I'm actually amazed OP has gotten this far in this short of a time, a testament to fine British production and electrics?

Way2slow posted:At the very least, the top must be re-done/replaced, and the paint must be re-done. I will not allow what little rust there is to spread. Crush out cancer when you can. Also, there is a slight dent on the passenger side on the bonnet (not hood, it's British!). quote:So far, including all I need to get it running (brakes etc) my total into it is just under $5K, not including price of the car. I think I'm making out like a bandit thus far. That is a significant understatement.

ssjonizuka posted:It's like the reading comprehension level goes out the window once there is a cool car, the paint is SEVERELY damaged. And we have ssjonizuka's judgement. OP never said the paint wasn't salvageable, he just said it was cracked all over. With that particular car, it would be worth investigating restoration options (depending on the type of paint, it may even be able to be reflowed -- it would be extremely expensive and need a master to do it, but for that car, it would be worth it).
