That Veneta show is no joke, well overdue for the vault treatment. Everything they learned during the Europe Tour went into those sets, and it shows. Nearly every version is a potential best ever, including of course the soul-searing Dark Star.

The best Dead group out there, or at least the best group playing all Dead songs, would be Joe Russo's Almost Dead: http://archive.org/details/jrad2013-01-26.mk5.flac16 Of course, that group can only ever get together for one or two shows a year, max. But I'm pretty confident they'll be great shows every time out.

For Dead-related weirdness you can also try Grayfolded, John Oswald's Plunderphonics take on 30+ years of Dark Star.

Joe Russo's Almost Dead continues to put on top-notch shows; now word that they'll be doing 12/30 and /31 with Phil Lesh himself at the Cap in Port Chester. Been a long time since Phil did NYE on the East Coast. Recordings here: https://archive.org/details/JoeRussosAlmostDead
