Worth mentioning for those who don't already know: NOE is doing a promotion in Europe where you can get the digital version of W101 for 30% off if you buy the digital version of Pikmin 3 first.

EDIT: also, this game really isn't anything like Pikmin whatsoever. It's a comparison people keep making but it really isn't accurate.

Yo NA dudes, Nintendo is gonna be selling the game at PAX Prime n a first-come first-served basis, so if you happen to be in the area and wanna grab the game early, there's your chance.

TheCoon posted:

Kamiya was bitching about Nintendo not marketing the game properly a few months ago. Hopefully he's smart enough to care about sales because if Bayonetta 2 bombs and Nintendo drops them they'll be in a pretty rough spot.

Platinum's business model is based on getting external contractors to finance all their games, so they don't end up spending a lot of their own capital on any given project. The success or failure of the games they develop only really affects them inasmuch as it can potentially help or hinder future attempts to find work, but in the case of W101 they can just use Nintendo/Wii U as a plausible excuse for why it didn't sell. They'll be fine.

Kamiya revealed a few of the secret characters at his PAX panel, so people might wanna keep that in mind if they're worried about spoilers.

Bayonetta seems like a really obvious point of reference. I don't get why people are treating this game like it crash-landed on earth from outer space, it's not really that far removed from your typical character action game.

Reminder: Multi Unite Morphs weren't even added to the game until three months before launch. They weren't advertising the game because it wasn't done and they had no idea if it was even gonna turn out to be any good.

A patch just went live in Japan; it fixes issues with Figure 24 and makes some other unspecified changes. Hopefully the NA/PAL release will come with a more comprehensive changelog.

Platinum gets paid to make games for other studios; they don't really spend much of their own money on the games they make, so in that sense they aren't as directly affected by low sales as other developers might be. Kamiya in particular just doesn't seem to give a poo poo either way.

That being said, there's never gonna be a sequel unless Nintendo pays for it, and why would they?

This game is (was?) ringing up for $6 at Kmart, too.
