Yeah, and TruTV seems to change focus at least once a year. Only Impractical Jokers survives and them deciding that is now also a TBS show means they might end up losing that.

They did that to me, and my mom was able to set up another email access to their account. We used one of mine for that, and I haven’t had an issue since. I pay for hbo and hulu, and I get her spectrum login for sports. Works out pretty decent.

I first saw the show when it was on Fusion so I don't have the full history that a lot of people do but I thought TruTV was going to be a great fit for it and I wish they gave it longer.

are yall ready for NBC's olympics coverage to somehow lean even harder into the forced drama and tragedy porn?

quote:

Wasserman, a sports agent and entertainment executive, said NBC is giving the games a “reality show” makeover to reflect changing times. After all, the network can’t broadcast prime-time coverage of events that happened hours earlier and act as if no one knows the results.

“NBC is not going to pretend like it’s live anymore,” Wasserman said. “What they’re going to do is treat it like a reality show. So reality TV, the magic is in the editing and telling the story of what you know is happening. … so the three hours of prime time is going to be reality-like storytelling to create the drama and the story to produce the event.”

“At 3 in the afternoon, we might not watch the swimming live in LA, but you’ll still watch that night because of the way it’s packaged, even though we know the result.”

Vertical Lime

what he doesn’t know is that this time they will air the marquee events live in the afternoon

but you know what their approach is anyway, live or not

DJExile
Jun 28, 2007

Yeah I get that in this day and age the least bad way to cover events happing on the other side of the planet is doing them live instead of tape-delayed, and there aren't a lot of great ways to fill time when it's 3AM in Paris, but everything about this reality show idea just sounds absolutely insufferable

NBC has been the worst of the four networks when it comes to just their regular game/reality competition shows alone (watch any random episode of Weakest Link, or especially The Wall)

I cannot imagine their level of production on Olympic Coverage could be in anyway good

Sports Illustrated gets a new publisher that will keep it in print

quote:

Sports Illustrated is getting a lifeline that will keep the iconic title in print after appearing to be on the brink of a closure.

Digital media company Minute Media has agreed to obtain the publishing rights to the property owned by Authentic Brands Group, the firms announced Monday.

The New York-based Minute Media owns and operates the digital sports sites the Players’ Tribune and FanSided. Authentic will get an equity stake in the company in return for the Sports Illustrated rights, which include the magazine’s annual swimsuit issue.

The new licensing deal, which runs for a minimum of 10 years, comes after the title’s previous operator, the Arena Group, cut most of its editorial staff. The company did the layoffs after missing a quarterly payment to Authentic in January.

More in the article, but seems like a decent fit overall. You have a company that already runs smaller sports publications and gets quite a bit of prestige by acquiring the former king of sports periodicals

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/21/espn-executives-talk-streaming-plans-in-cnbc-documentary.html

posted:

For more than 40 years, the world’s largest all-sports network has grown annual revenue by increasing cable subscription fees. ESPN first charged pay-TV distributors less than $1 per month per subscriber in the 1980s. In 2023, ESPN’s monthly carriage fee was $9.42 per subscriber, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

That business model is eroding. Since 2013, tens of millions of Americans have canceled their cable TV subscriptions, raising questions about ESPN’s future in an increasingly fragmented media landscape. CNBC spoke with multiple current and former Disney and ESPN executives about the network’s path ahead as part of the digital documentary “ESPN’s Fight for Dominance.”

ESPN reported domestic and international revenue grew just 1% to $4.4 billion in its most recent fiscal quarter. The network can no longer rely on price increases to make up the difference as the number of cable customers declines.

posted:

The company has a new two-part streaming plan to reinvigorate growth. First, this fall, Disney will make ESPN available outside the traditional cable TV bundle for the first time as part of a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox. The service, which does not yet have a price, will target noncable customers who want to watch sports but don’t want to pay $80 or $100 a month for a full bundle of networks.

Second, in fall 2025 ESPN will launch its flagship streaming service that will include everything ESPN has to offer, both live and on demand. It will include unprecedented personalization and will interact with ESPN Bet, the company’s licensed online sportsbook, and fantasy sports to cater to younger fans. The product will go well beyond ESPN+, which exists as a $10.99 streaming service that doesn’t include ESPN’s most expensive programming, such as all of “Monday Night Football.”
