Over in the UK, John Motson is retiring after 50 years commentating on football, primarily for the BBC. For most Americans, you'll know him as the commentator who notes that there is a really serious problem before the match started during the Hillsborough 30 for 30. For us Brits, we're wishing he'd hung his mic up a long time ago as he's been clearly past his best for a long time now

So there's rumours that [url=http://awfulannouncing.com/international/amazon-reportedly-looking-bid-english-premier-league-uk-media-rights.html]Amazon could try and pick up all seven of the TV packages for the Premier League that will be up for sale in the next few months. This is either going to be good in that Sky subs will finally come down to an acceptable level if they lose some or all of their packages, and ditto for BT Sport, or it's going to jack the price of their subs right up to keep what they have. My gut feeling is that Sky will fight tooth and nail to keep their Sunday games and the Saturday early game, BT will keep the Saturday late game while Amazon hoovers up the rest

ShaneMacGowansTeeth

The only thing Amazon can't do is take all of the seven packages on offer, I'm pretty sure that's set in stone. But just having them around as a lingering presence is spooking Sky and BT, especially as Sky has staked almost their entire company on the Premier League, and losing that or jacking prices up for the same games or keeping prices the same while having less games could lead to a customer revolt

The very first segment he was on, and they used him four times, he said almost verbatim: "Look, I'm not here to say whether anyone is black enough but... *runs off a dozen reasons why Colin Kaepernick isn't in fact black at all". Another time he said that Trump isn't a white supremacist scumbag but just a troll, and in the last one he said with a straight face that Kaepernick isn't being blackballed, he's just a really poo poo quarter back but which point even Mark Chapman, who presents the UK's NFL programming on the BBC and genuinely loves the sport, started wondering out aloud about Whitlock's credentials about anything

I've got a question about NFL half time shows. During the game we got yesterday in the UK, at half time of the Rams @ Eagles games, they went to the "VISA Half Time" show, but obviously Fox has other games on in that same window, so do they just cut to that show from each game no matter what time they reach the half?

The first part of the Hillsborough is like a disaster movie, where you see all these horrible decisions made that lead up to the tragedy, and the second just makes you get actually angrier and angrier at the sheer injustice of it all. But some of the crowd footage, and especially the footage which looks like it was taken from just above the Leppings Lane terrace is just undeniably grim.

A quick reminder with all this talk of blackouts is that no football of any kind (even European football) can be shown in the uk between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday. This led in the past to the frankly ridiculous broadcast of a Real Madrid vs Barcelona game which kicked off at 5pm, where the first fifteen minutes consisted of nothing but a shot of the half-time pundits watching the game on tablets (turned away from the cameras) and commentating on it until 5:15

"In the 1960s, Burnley F.C. Chairman Bob Lord successfully convinced fellow Football League Chairmen that televised matches on a Saturday afternoon would have a negative effect on the attendances of other football league games that were not being televised and as a result reduce their financial income.

As a result, the FA, Premier League and Football League do not permit English matches to be televised live between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday within the United Kingdom. Until recently, the FA Cup Final was an exception and had been broadcast at 3pm on a Saturday in May; however, in 2012, the FA Cup Final was moved to 5pm."

You have Neil Reynolds hosting, Solomon Wilcots and Rob Ryan as primary analysts, all four guys from the Around The NFL podcast as secondary analysts, two guys from PFF as tertiary analysts and Pete King popped up for a segment. Well the four man booth for the Eagles@Jags game wasn't terrible, and whoever was directing traffic in there did a superb job of not having four competing voices talking over each other, as well as bringing in both sideline reporters. Mooch was probably the worst of the four, Eisen took a few series to get into a groove, but Michael Irvin was practically revelatory. No bombast, just calm methodical analysis when called upon
